New Living TranslationKing James Bible
Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand.1If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.2Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God.3For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory.4When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.
So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world.5Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:
Because of these sins, the anger of God is coming.6For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:
You used to do these things when your life was still part of this world.7In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.
But now is the time to get rid of anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander, and dirty language.8But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.
Don’t lie to each other, for you have stripped off your old sinful nature and all its wicked deeds.9Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;
Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him.10And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
In this new life, it doesn’t matter if you are a Jew or a Gentile, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbaric, uncivilized, slave, or free. Christ is all that matters, and he lives in all of us.11Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.
Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.12Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;
Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.13Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.
Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.14And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.
And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.15And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.
Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts.16Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father. Instructions for Christian Households17And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting for those who belong to the Lord.18Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord.
Husbands, love your wives and never treat them harshly.19Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them.
Children, always obey your parents, for this pleases the Lord.20Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.
Fathers, do not aggravate your children, or they will become discouraged.21Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged.
Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything you do. Try to please them all the time, not just when they are watching you. Serve them sincerely because of your reverent fear of the Lord.22Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God:
Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.23And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;
Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ.24Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.
But if you do what is wrong, you will be paid back for the wrong you have done. For God has no favorites.25But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons.
