New Living TranslationNET Bible
O LORD, I have come to you for protection; don’t let me be disgraced. Save me, for you do what is right.1For the music director; a psalm of David. In you, O LORD, I have taken shelter! Never let me be humiliated! Vindicate me by rescuing me!
Turn your ear to listen to me; rescue me quickly. Be my rock of protection, a fortress where I will be safe.2Listen to me! Quickly deliver me! Be my protector and refuge, a stronghold where I can be safe!
You are my rock and my fortress. For the honor of your name, lead me out of this danger.3For you are my high ridge and my stronghold; for the sake of your own reputation you lead me and guide me.
Pull me from the trap my enemies set for me, for I find protection in you alone.4You will free me from the net they hid for me, for you are my place of refuge.
I entrust my spirit into your hand. Rescue me, LORD, for you are a faithful God.5Into your hand I entrust my life; you will rescue me, O LORD, the faithful God.
I hate those who worship worthless idols. I trust in the LORD.6I hate those who serve worthless idols, but I trust in the LORD.
I will be glad and rejoice in your unfailing love, for you have seen my troubles, and you care about the anguish of my soul.7I will be happy and rejoice in your faithfulness, because you notice my pain and you are aware of how distressed I am.
You have not handed me over to my enemies but have set me in a safe place.8You do not deliver me over to the power of the enemy; you enable me to stand in a wide open place.
Have mercy on me, LORD, for I am in distress. Tears blur my eyes. My body and soul are withering away.9Have mercy on me, for I am in distress! My eyes grow dim from suffering. I have lost my strength.
I am dying from grief; my years are shortened by sadness. Sin has drained my strength; I am wasting away from within.10For my life nears its end in pain; my years draw to a close as I groan. My strength fails me because of my sin, and my bones become brittle.
I am scorned by all my enemies and despised by my neighbors— even my friends are afraid to come near me. When they see me on the street, they run the other way.11Because of all my enemies, people disdain me; my neighbors are appalled by my suffering--those who know me are horrified by my condition; those who see me in the street run away from me.
I am ignored as if I were dead, as if I were a broken pot.12I am forgotten, like a dead man no one thinks about; I am regarded as worthless, like a broken jar.
I have heard the many rumors about me, and I am surrounded by terror. My enemies conspire against me, plotting to take my life.13For I hear what so many are saying, the terrifying news that comes from every direction. When they plot together against me, they figure out how they can take my life.
But I am trusting you, O LORD, saying, “You are my God!”14But I trust in you, O LORD! I declare, "You are my God!"
My future is in your hands. Rescue me from those who hunt me down relentlessly.15You determine my destiny! Rescue me from the power of my enemies and those who chase me.
Let your favor shine on your servant. In your unfailing love, rescue me.16Smile on your servant! Deliver me because of your faithfulness!
Don’t let me be disgraced, O LORD, for I call out to you for help. Let the wicked be disgraced; let them lie silent in the grave.17O LORD, do not let me be humiliated, for I call out to you! May evil men be humiliated! May they go wailing to the grave!
Silence their lying lips— those proud and arrogant lips that accuse the godly.18May lying lips be silenced--lips that speak defiantly against the innocent with arrogance and contempt!
How great is the goodness you have stored up for those who fear you. You lavish it on those who come to you for protection, blessing them before the watching world.19How great is your favor, which you store up for your loyal followers! In plain sight of everyone you bestow it on those who take shelter in you.
You hide them in the shelter of your presence, safe from those who conspire against them. You shelter them in your presence, far from accusing tongues.20You hide them with you, where they are safe from the attacks of men; you conceal them in a shelter, where they are safe from slanderous attacks.
Praise the LORD, for he has shown me the wonders of his unfailing love. He kept me safe when my city was under attack.21The LORD deserves praise for he demonstrated his amazing faithfulness to me when I was besieged by enemies.
In panic I cried out, “I am cut off from the LORD!” But you heard my cry for mercy and answered my call for help.22I jumped to conclusions and said, "I am cut off from your presence!" But you heard my plea for mercy when I cried out to you for help.
Love the LORD, all you godly ones! For the LORD protects those who are loyal to him, but he harshly punishes the arrogant.23Love the LORD, all you faithful followers of his! The LORD protects those who have integrity, but he pays back in full the one who acts arrogantly.
So be strong and courageous, all you who put your hope in the LORD!24Be strong and confident, all you who wait on the LORD!
