New Living Translation | NET Bible |
I will exalt you, LORD, for you rescued me. You refused to let my enemies triumph over me. | 1A psalm--a song used at the dedication of the temple; by David. I will praise you, O LORD, for you lifted me up, and did not allow my enemies to gloat over me. |
O LORD my God, I cried to you for help, and you restored my health. | 2O LORD my God, I cried out to you and you healed me. |
You brought me up from the grave, O LORD. You kept me from falling into the pit of death. | 3O LORD, you pulled me up from Sheol; you rescued me from among those descending into the grave. |
Sing to the LORD, all you godly ones! Praise his holy name. | 4Sing to the LORD, you faithful followers of his; give thanks to his holy name. |
For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime! Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning. | 5For his anger lasts only a brief moment, and his good favor restores one's life. One may experience sorrow during the night, but joy arrives in the morning. |
When I was prosperous, I said, “Nothing can stop me now!” | 6In my self-confidence I said, "I will never be upended." |
Your favor, O LORD, made me as secure as a mountain. Then you turned away from me, and I was shattered. | 7O LORD, in your good favor you made me secure. Then you rejected me and I was terrified. |
I cried out to you, O LORD. I begged the Lord for mercy, saying, | 8To you, O LORD, I cried out; I begged the Lord for mercy: |
“What will you gain if I die, if I sink into the grave? Can my dust praise you? Can it tell of your faithfulness? | 9"What profit is there in taking my life, in my descending into the Pit? Can the dust of the grave praise you? Can it declare your loyalty? |
Hear me, LORD, and have mercy on me. Help me, O LORD.” | 10Hear, O LORD, and have mercy on me! O LORD, deliver me!" |
You have turned my mourning into joyful dancing. You have taken away my clothes of mourning and clothed me with joy, | 11Then you turned my lament into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and covered me with joy. |
that I might sing praises to you and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give you thanks forever! | 12So now my heart will sing to you and not be silent; O LORD my God, I will always give thanks to you. |
