Align actions with God's will like Jehoash?
How can we ensure our actions align with God's will, as Jehoash did?

Setting the Scene: 2 Kings 12:2

“Jehoash did what was right in the eyes of the LORD all the days in which Jehoiada the priest instructed him.”

Jehoash’s reign opens with a simple, powerful statement: when he listened to godly instruction, his actions pleased the LORD. That one sentence offers a roadmap for every believer who longs to walk in God’s will.

Lessons Drawn from Jehoash

• Godly guidance matters. Jehoash thrived while he stayed under Jehoiada’s counsel.

• Right actions flow from right relationship. Obedience was not random; it was rooted in ongoing instruction.

• Sustained alignment requires continual dependence. When the influence of Jehoiada faded, so did Jehoash’s faithfulness (see 2 Chronicles 24:17–18). Finishing well means remaining teachable for life.

Foundational Steps for Aligning Our Actions

1. Seek sound spiritual mentors

Proverbs 13:20: “He who walks with the wise will become wise.”

Hebrews 13:7: remember and imitate the faith of godly leaders.

2. Saturate your mind with Scripture

Psalm 119:105: “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

2 Timothy 3:16-17: Scripture equips “for every good work.”

3. Submit every decision to the Lord

Proverbs 3:5-6: trust, acknowledge, and He will direct your paths.

Colossians 3:17: do all “in the name of the Lord Jesus.”

4. Practice immediate obedience

John 14:15: “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.”

James 1:22: be doers, not hearers only.

5. Embrace accountability

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10: two are better than one for lifting each other up.

Hebrews 10:24-25: provoke one another to love and good works.

6. Guard the heart daily

Proverbs 4:23: “Guard your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.”

Romans 12:2: be transformed by renewing the mind, not conforming to the world.

Scripture That Anchors Our Steps

Matthew 6:33: “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you.”

John 15:5: “Apart from Me you can do nothing.”

1 Corinthians 10:31: “Whatever you do, do it all to the glory of God.”

Ephesians 5:15-17: be careful, wise, and understand “what the will of the Lord is.”

Daily Habits That Keep Us on Course

• Begin each morning in the Word, letting God’s truth set the agenda.

• Invite the Holy Spirit to examine motives and attitudes (Psalm 139:23-24).

• Maintain short accounts—confess sin promptly and receive cleansing (1 John 1:9).

• Plan your calendar and spending with kingdom priorities in view.

• Meet regularly with believers who will speak truth in love.

• Review the day each evening: where did God lead, and where must you adjust tomorrow?

Finishing Well

Jehoash’s early obedience shows how powerfully a life can honor God, yet his later decline warns that yesterday’s faithfulness is no guarantee for tomorrow. Continuous dependence on Scripture, Spirit-led obedience, and godly counsel keeps our actions aligned with His will “all the days” He gives us.

Compare Jehoash's obedience to other kings in 2 Kings. What lessons can we learn?
