How can we apply the vision of dry bones to our spiritual lives today? A Valley Scene Brought Home Ezekiel 37:8: “And as I looked, tendons appeared on them, flesh grew, and skin covered them, but there was no breath in them.” A real valley in real time filled with real bones. The miracle of sinews, flesh, and skin shows that God cares about bodies as well as souls. Still, without breath the scene remains lifeless. That picture travels straight into the heart whenever spiritual vitality slips away. Spotting Present-Day Dryness • Habitual sin that dulls the conscience (Ephesians 4:18) • Religious activity without dependence on the Spirit (2 Timothy 3:5) • Discouragement that drains hope (Proverbs 13:12) • Forgetting first love for Christ (Revelation 2:4) These conditions resemble bones re-fleshed yet un-breathed: structure without animation. What the Vision Proves about God • He speaks first—life begins with His Word (Genesis 1:3; John 6:63). • He works in stages—tendons, then flesh, then skin, then breath. Progress may be slow but it is sure. • He never settles for half measures—He intends full resurrection, not cosmetic repair (Romans 8:11). Receiving the Breath Today 1. Hear the Word afresh • Scripture penetrates to the marrow (Hebrews 4:12). • Daily, deliberate intake—reading aloud, memorizing, singing. 2. Welcome the Spirit’s control • Confess and forsake sin (1 John 1:9). • Yield thoughts, plans, and desires to His leading (Galatians 5:25). 3. Align with God’s purposes • Pursue holiness, the atmosphere in which the Spirit loves to dwell (1 Peter 1:15-16). • Embrace mission; the breath comes so the army can rise and move (Matthew 28:19-20). 4. Keep eyes on the risen Christ • Jesus is “the resurrection and the life” who guarantees our vitality (John 11:25). • Union with Him secures ongoing renewal (Colossians 3:1-4). Living Beyond Revival Moments • Continual gratitude keeps lungs full (1 Thessalonians 5:18). • Corporate worship fans embers into flame; Ezekiel saw an army, not lone survivors (Hebrews 10:24-25). • Service turns revived people into life-givers for others (2 Corinthians 5:14-15). • Hope stands firm even in fresh valleys; the God who once breathed will breathe again (Lamentations 3:21-23). Confidence for the Road Ahead The bones did not crawl toward God; He came to them. The same Lord now indwells every believer, guaranteeing that dryness never has the last word. When Scripture fills the mind, confession clears the heart, and the Spirit takes control, the valley echoes with footsteps of a living, purposeful people—proof that the miracle of Ezekiel 37 still unfolds wherever faith receives the breath. |
