Applying redemption in today's spirituality?
How can we apply the principle of redemption today in our spiritual lives?

Text in Focus

Leviticus 27:27: “If, however, it is among the unclean animals, he may redeem it according to your valuation, adding a fifth of its value. But if it is not redeemed, it is to be sold according to your valuation.”

Key Idea: Bought Back at a Price

• In Moses’ day, even an “unclean” animal dedicated to God could be bought back—but only by paying the assigned value plus an added fifth (20 %).

• Someone who truly treasured what had been consecrated would willingly pay the extra cost.

• The principle: redemption involves a real, measurable payment, showing both the worth of what is redeemed and the love of the redeemer.

Fulfilled in Christ

1 Peter 1:18-19: “You were redeemed…with the precious blood of Christ.”

Ephesians 1:7: “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses.”

• Christ’s sacrifice is the ultimate “valuation plus one-fifth”—an overpayment that secures us forever.

Living Out Redemption Today

1. Value Your Salvation

1 Corinthians 6:19-20—“You are not your own; you were bought with a price.”

• Respond with gratitude, worship, and holiness; treat your life as belonging to God, not to yourself.

2. Embrace Costly Obedience

Luke 9:23—take up the cross daily.

• Because Christ paid the greater cost, we gladly accept lesser costs: forgiving, serving, giving, witnessing.

3. Redeem the Time

Ephesians 5:16—“Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.”

• Budget minutes like money; invest them in prayer, Scripture, relationships, and kingdom service.

4. Redeem Relationships

Colossians 4:5—“Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, redeeming the time.”

• Be quick to reconcile; pay the “extra fifth” of humility, patience, and listening to restore fellowship.

5. Invest Resources for Eternity

Proverbs 3:9—honor the Lord with your wealth.

• Generosity mirrors the overpayment of Leviticus 27:27; giving beyond the minimum displays redemption’s overflow.

6. Guard Against “Selling Off” What’s God’s

Hebrews 2:1—pay closer attention lest we drift.

• Refuse compromises that cheapen Christ’s payment; resist sins that would “sell” your testimony.

Everyday Checkpoints

• Morning: “Lord, how will I spend Your blood-bought day?”

• Decisions: “Does this choice reflect my redeemed status?”

• Conflicts: “Am I willing to pay the extra fifth of grace?”

• Evening: “Did I steward or squander the price He paid?”

Result: A Life That Shouts Redemption

When we consciously live as those bought back—valuing the price, embracing the cost, and redeeming every moment—others see the difference, and God receives the glory of a people who “wait for His Son from heaven…who rescues us from the coming wrath” (1 Thessalonians 1:10).
