Exodus 3:4: How does it inspire service?
How does God's call in Exodus 3:4 inspire us to serve Him today?

Setting the Scene

“ When the LORD saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, ‘Moses, Moses!’ ‘Here I am,’ he answered.” (Exodus 3:4)

What Moses Heard, We Hear

• A personal call—God speaks Moses’ name twice.

• A holy summons—spoken from within the burning, unconsumed bush.

• An immediate response—“Here I am,” offered without delay.

Moses’ Moment, Our Mirror

• God still knows our names (John 10:27).

• God still speaks “today” (Hebrews 3:15).

• The proper answer is still availability, not ability.

Why God’s Call Still Resonates

• Personal—He calls specific people, not vague crowds.

• Purposeful—He calls with a mission already prepared (Ephesians 2:10).

• Powerful—The One who calls equips (1 Thessalonians 5:24).

Practical Ways to Respond Today

1. Present yourself to God daily

– “offer your bodies as a living sacrifice” (Romans 12:1).

2. Cultivate attentiveness

– schedule unhurried time in Scripture and prayer, expecting His voice.

3. Step toward the need you notice

– often the “burning bush” is the issue capturing your attention.

4. Say “Here I am” before asking “How?”

– obedience precedes understanding (Proverbs 3:5-6).

5. Serve with the gift you have

– “each of you should use whatever gift he has received to serve others” (1 Peter 4:10).

6. Rely on His presence, not your résumé

– God’s answer to Moses’ fears was “I will be with you” (Exodus 3:12).

Encouraging Reminders from Scripture

Isaiah 6:8 — willingness precedes assignment.

Matthew 28:19-20 — we are sent with divine authority and abiding presence.

2 Corinthians 5:20 — we are Christ’s ambassadors, speaking for Him.

The same God who called out “Moses, Moses!” calls our names today. When we echo Moses’ simple reply—“Here I am”—we step into a life of worshipful service, empowered by the Holy One who still speaks from the fire.

In what ways can we be attentive to God's voice like Moses?
