How can believers gather God's flock?
How can believers actively participate in God's gathering of His flock today?

Seeing the Shepherd’s Heart (Ezekiel 34:12)

“As a shepherd looks for His scattered sheep when He is among His flock, so will I look for My sheep. I will rescue them from all the places to which they were scattered on a day of clouds and darkness.”

God literally promises to search, rescue, and regather every sheep. His shepherding nature has never changed (John 10:11), and He invites His people to mirror that heart.

Practical Ways Believers Join the Gathering Work

• Seek the Lost

– Go where scattered people actually are—homes, streets, workplaces (Luke 19:10; Acts 5:42).

– Carry the gospel plainly and lovingly (Romans 1:16).

• Pray the Flock Home

– Intercede for open doors and prepared hearts (Colossians 4:3).

– “Ask the Lord of the harvest…” (Matthew 9:38) until every nation hears (Revelation 7:9).

• Speak Truth in Love

– Share Scripture faithfully, trusting its power (Isaiah 55:11; 2 Timothy 4:2).

– Guard doctrine so the flock is not scattered by false teaching (Acts 20:28-30).

• Welcome and Include

– Practice warm hospitality; every table can become a pasture (Romans 15:7; Hebrews 13:2).

– Break down walls that keep newcomers at the fringe (Ephesians 2:19).

• Disciple for Maturity

– Teach new believers “to obey everything” Christ commanded (Matthew 28:20).

– Meet regularly for encouragement and accountability (Hebrews 10:24-25).

• Restore the Straying

– Gently pursue wanderers (James 5:19-20; Galatians 6:1).

– Celebrate repentance as heaven does (Luke 15:6-7).

• Protect and Care

– Stand with the vulnerable, defending them from harm (Proverbs 24:11).

– Provide practical help—food, counsel, presence (1 John 3:17-18).

• Serve under Christ’s Authority

– Elders and leaders shepherd “willingly…eagerly” (1 Peter 5:2-3).

– Every believer uses gifts for the body’s good (1 Corinthians 12:7).

• Support Global Mission

– Give, send, and go so unreached sheep hear the Shepherd’s voice (John 10:16; Acts 13:2-3).

Living the Picture until the Great Finale

Each act of seeking, welcoming, teaching, and protecting displays the literal promise of Ezekiel 34:12 in miniature. One day the Shepherd will complete the gathering Himself (Ezekiel 37:24; Revelation 21:3). Until then, believers participate eagerly, confident that the Scriptures we obey are true, sufficient, and unstoppable.

In what ways does Ezekiel 34:12 connect to Jesus' teachings in John 10?
