How can we act on our faith today?
In what ways can we "arise" and take action in our faith today?

Focus Verse

“Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD rises upon you.” (Isaiah 60:1)

What the Call Meant Then

• Israel, once exiled and humbled, was commanded to stand up because God’s promised restoration was dawning.

• “Arise” is literal—get up, move, change posture; “shine” follows—display what God is doing.

• The initiative is God’s (“your light has come”), yet the response is ours (“arise”).

What the Call Means Now

• Christ is the Light (John 8:12); His glory now rests on every believer (2 Corinthians 4:6).

• The command still expects visible, practical action—faith that stays seated is incomplete (James 2:17).

Practical Ways to Arise Today

1. Stand up in identity

– Begin each day by confessing aloud who you are in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17).

– Reject labels of fear, failure, or past sin; accept the new creation reality.

2. Step away from spiritual slumber

– Schedule undistracted time in Scripture before other media (Psalm 119:147).

– Memorize Ephesians 5:14 and recite it when tempted toward passivity.

3. Advance in obedience

– Obey the next clear instruction God has already given—baptism, reconciliation, generosity, purity (Luke 6:46).

– Treat delayed obedience as disobedience; move the same day you hear.

4. Engage in courageous witness

– Share a testimony or gospel summary with one person this week (Acts 1:8).

– Use social settings, work breaks, or digital platforms; speak plainly, lovingly, confidently.

5. Serve needs around you

– Volunteer in church ministries, local shelters, or crisis-pregnancy centers (James 1:27).

– Keep service personal and relational; names matter more than numbers.

6. Intercede and confront darkness

– Set fixed prayer slots for leaders, nations, and persecuted believers (1 Timothy 2:1-2).

– Fast periodically; fasting pairs “arising” in the spirit with humility in the flesh.

7. Cultivate holiness

– Confess sin promptly (1 John 1:9).

– Remove hidden compromises—media, relationships, habits—that dim your witness (Romans 13:11-14).

8. Persevere through hardship

– Remember Joshua 1:2-3: “Now therefore arise, cross over this Jordan … Every place on which the sole of your foot treads I have given you”.

– Claim promises, keep walking, refuse retreat.

Scripture Echoes of the Same Charge

Ephesians 5:14: “Wake up, O sleeper, rise up from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”

Mark 2:11: “I say to you, get up, pick up your mat, and go home.”

Acts 26:16: “But get up and stand on your feet. For I have appeared to you for this purpose …”

Joshua 7:10: “Stand up! Why have you fallen facedown?”

Living the Lesson

• Set a decisive “get-up” moment each morning—feet on the floor, heart lifted to God before phone or news.

• Keep a written log titled “Arise Actions,” recording each step you take in obedience and service.

• Review the list weekly; celebrate progress, repent where stalled, plan the next faith move.

God has already sent the Light. Our role is to rise, walk, and let that Light be unmistakable.
