How can we guide others to heaven?
In what ways can we actively help others enter the kingdom of heaven?

The Warning from Matthew 23:13

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You shut the door of the kingdom of heaven in men’s faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let in those who wish to enter.”

Jesus rebukes leaders whose hypocrisy kept people from salvation. His words push us to swing that door wide open instead of slamming it shut.

Recognize and Remove Stumbling Blocks

• Examine church traditions and personal habits: if they obscure grace, set them aside (Romans 14:13).

• Speak plainly, not with religious jargon (1 Corinthians 14:9).

• Offer genuine welcome; partiality contradicts the gospel (James 2:1-4).

• Restore, don’t crush, those caught in sin (Galatians 6:1).

Live a Transparent, Authentic Faith

• Consistency between Sunday worship and weekday life silences accusations of hypocrisy (1 Peter 2:12).

• Admit failures quickly; repentance is more powerful than pretense (1 John 1:9).

• Let good works point beyond you to the Father (Matthew 5:16).

• Keep motives pure—serve, don’t perform (Matthew 6:1-4).

Proclaim the Gospel Clearly

• Center on Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:3-4).

• Use Scripture; faith comes by hearing the word of Christ (Romans 10:17).

• Give personal testimony—“once I was… but now” (Mark 5:19).

• Invite a response; urge listeners to repent and believe (Acts 2:38).

Show the Compassion of Christ

• See people as harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd (Matthew 9:36).

• Meet tangible needs—food, friendship, freedom from loneliness (James 2:15-16).

• Practice patient listening; love is slow to speak and quick to hear (Proverbs 18:13).

• Demonstrate unity; our love proves discipleship (John 13:34-35).

Disciple, Don’t Just Convert

• Teach everything Jesus commanded (Matthew 28:19-20).

• Walk alongside new believers, modeling prayer, Scripture reading, and obedience (2 Timothy 2:2).

• Connect them to the local church for fellowship and accountability (Hebrews 10:24-25).

• Celebrate progress, however small; affirm that growth is a process (Philippians 1:6).

Pray and Depend on the Spirit

• Intercede for the lost by name; God “wants all men to be saved” (1 Timothy 2:1-4).

• Ask the Spirit to open hearts, as He did for Lydia (Acts 16:14).

• Seek boldness to speak when the door opens (Colossians 4:3-4).

• Trust the Spirit to convict; results belong to Him (John 16:8).

Guard Against Hypocrisy

• Keep private devotion strong; public ministry flows from hidden life with God (Matthew 6:6).

• Refuse double standards: apply truth to yourself first (Luke 6:42).

• Cultivate accountability; invite trusted believers to ask hard questions (Proverbs 27:17).

• Remember leaders are stewards, not gatekeepers; Jesus alone is the door (John 10:9).

Offer the Ease of Christ’s Yoke

• Present salvation as gift, not wage (Ephesians 2:8-9).

• Point weary souls to Jesus’ rest, not to heavier rules (Matthew 11:28-30).

• Rejoice in grace; joy is contagious and attractive (Romans 14:17).

• Celebrate every step toward Jesus—heaven does (Luke 15:7).

By removing barriers, living authentically, proclaiming clearly, loving compassionately, discipling faithfully, praying dependently, guarding our hearts, and magnifying grace, we open the door wide for others to enter the kingdom of heaven.
