How can we serve God like the Levites?
In what ways can we serve God as our "inheritance" like the Levites?

The Levites’ Example of Inheritance

“Levi has no portion or inheritance among his brothers; the LORD is his inheritance, as the LORD your God promised him.” (Deuteronomy 10:9)

Understanding “God as Our Inheritance”

• An inheritance normally supplies land, wealth, and security; God Himself supplied these needs to Levi.

• For believers, Christ fulfills the same role: security, provision, identity (cf. Ephesians 1:11; Psalm 16:5).

• The New Testament calls every believer a priest (1 Peter 2:9; Revelation 1:6). We therefore share the Levites’ calling.

Practical Ways We Serve God as Our Inheritance Today

• Whole-life Worship

– Offer “living sacrifices” (Romans 12:1).

– Shape every activity—work, rest, relationships—around His worthiness.

• Stewardship, Not Ownership

– Hold possessions loosely, viewing resources as tools for His glory (Matthew 6:19-21; Acts 4:32-35).

– Prioritize giving—time, talents, finances—to kingdom work.

• Teaching and Discipling

– Levites instructed Israel (Deuteronomy 33:10).

– Share Scripture faithfully at home, church, and community (2 Timothy 2:2).

• Intercessory Prayer

– Stand in the gap as priests did with incense (Numbers 16:46-48).

– Pray regularly for church, government, and the lost (1 Timothy 2:1-4).

• Guarding Holiness

– Maintain distinctiveness, refusing compromise (Leviticus 10:10-11; 2 Corinthians 6:17-18).

– Pursue purity in speech, media, ethics.

• Serving the Gathered Church

– Levites handled tabernacle duties; believers steward local-church ministries (1 Corinthians 12:4-7).

– Volunteer gladly—music, hospitality, teaching, maintenance.

• Trusting God’s Provision

– Levites relied on tithes and God’s direct care (Numbers 18:21-24).

– Walk by faith when income, health, or plans feel uncertain (Matthew 6:31-33; Philippians 4:19).

Living the Levite Mindset in Daily Life

1. Begin each day affirming: “Lord, You are my portion.”

2. Schedule spiritual disciplines first—Word, prayer, fellowship.

3. Set monthly goals for generous giving and service.

4. Evaluate possessions: keep, give, or repurpose for ministry.

5. Celebrate testimonies of God’s tangible provision.

Encouragement from Other Scriptures

• “The LORD, the God of Israel, is their inheritance” (Joshua 13:33).

• “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever” (Psalm 73:26).

• “He has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light” (Colossians 1:12).

As the Levites modeled, we serve best when we treasure God Himself above every earthly claim, relying on His faithfulness and reflecting His glory in every sphere of life.
