How can we show God's holiness locally?
In what ways can we reflect God's holiness in our communities?

Our Identity as a Holy Nation

“‘And unto Me you shall be a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ ” (Exodus 19:6)

• God declares, not suggests, that His people are different—set apart for His purposes.

• Holiness is not an optional add-on; it defines the community’s essence (cf. Leviticus 19:2; 1 Peter 2:9).

• The world notices when believers live out what God has already called them to be.

Cultivating Personal Purity that Spreads Outward

• Guard the heart (Proverbs 4:23) so attitudes stay free from bitterness, envy, and lust.

• Speak truth with grace—clean lips reveal a cleansed heart (Ephesians 4:29).

• Practice sexual purity (1 Thessalonians 4:3-5). Personal holiness is contagious; compromise is too.

• Reject hidden sin; bring everything into the light (Ephesians 5:11-12).

Serving as Royal Priests

• Intercede for neighbors—pray their burdens back to God (1 Samuel 12:23).

• Teach Scripture informally: in living rooms, over coffee, in classrooms (Deuteronomy 6:6-9).

• Represent God’s character at city meetings, school boards, and local charities.

• Offer daily life as “a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God” (Romans 12:1).

Modeling Justice and Mercy

• Defend the vulnerable (Proverbs 31:8-9; James 1:27).

• Conduct business ethically—pay fair wages, keep contracts (Leviticus 19:35-36).

• Practice forgiveness quickly; refuse gossip and retaliation (Matthew 6:14-15; Romans 12:17-19).

• Live generosity that astonishes unbelievers (2 Corinthians 9:13).

Building a Counter-Cultural Community

• Hospitality: open homes to believers and seekers alike (Hebrews 13:2).

• Multi-generational discipleship—older saints train the young (Titus 2:2-6).

• Racial and social unity in Christ shouts holiness in a divided culture (Ephesians 2:14-16).

• Mutual accountability—gentle restoration when anyone stumbles (Galatians 6:1).

Witnessing Through Everyday Work

• Work with excellence and honesty (Colossians 3:23).

• Refuse corrupt shortcuts even if “everyone does it.”

• Encourage coworkers, respect authority, and serve customers well—those actions smell like holiness (2 Corinthians 2:15).

Guarding Corporate Worship

• Gather faithfully; collective praise displays a distinct kingdom (Hebrews 10:24-25).

• Keep worship Christ-centered, Scripture-saturated, Spirit-led (John 4:24).

• Observe the Lord’s Table in unity, examining hearts first (1 Corinthians 11:27-28).

• Use gifts to edify, not to impress (1 Corinthians 14:26).

Remaining Dependent on Grace

• Holiness is possible only because Christ “became to us…sanctification” (1 Corinthians 1:30).

• Confess sin quickly; receive cleansing continually (1 John 1:9).

• Lean on the Spirit’s power, not self-effort (Galatians 5:16-25).

• The more we relish God’s grace, the more compellingly we can reflect His holiness to the watching world.
