How can we trust Jesus with ailments?
In what ways can we trust Jesus with our physical and spiritual ailments today?

Anchor Verse

“...He took on our infirmities and carried our diseases.” (Matthew 8:17)

Jesus, the Promised Healer

• Matthew presents Jesus’ healing ministry as the direct fulfillment of Isaiah 53:4.

• Isaiah foretold a Messiah who would shoulder both “infirmities” (physical pain) and “diseases” (spiritual sickness).

• The cross completes this promise: “By His stripes you are healed” (1 Peter 2:24).

How We Can Trust Him with Physical Ailments

• Same Savior, same power—“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8).

• He still invites the sick: “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened” (Matthew 11:28).

• Prayer of faith is encouraged—James 5:14-16 outlines anointing, prayer, and confession.

• Not every sickness ends instantly, yet every believer can rest in His sovereign care (Romans 8:28).

• Healing may come through miracles, medicine, or ultimate wholeness in eternity (Revelation 21:4).

How We Can Trust Him with Spiritual Ailments

• Sin is the deepest disease; Jesus declared, “It is not the healthy who need a physician, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners” (Mark 2:17).

• He offers forgiveness on confession (1 John 1:9) and freedom from condemnation (Romans 8:1).

• Daily renewal promised: “Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day” (2 Corinthians 4:16).

• The Spirit indwells to heal wounds like fear, bitterness, and shame (2 Timothy 1:7; Psalm 147:3).

Practical Steps of Faith Today

1. Read and speak healing promises aloud (Psalm 103:2-3; 3 John 1:2).

2. Bring needs to Jesus first in prayer; involve church elders as James 5 instructs.

3. Combine faith with responsible action—see doctors, take medicine, steward health as God’s temple (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).

4. Cultivate expectant gratitude—thank Him before seeing results (Philippians 4:6-7).

5. Encourage others: share testimonies of God’s faithfulness to build collective faith (Revelation 12:11).

Encouraging Biblical Snapshots

Matthew 8:1-4—A leper receives both cleansing and social restoration.

Matthew 9:1-8—Paralytic’s sins forgiven and body healed in one encounter.

Luke 8:43-48—Woman with chronic bleeding touches Jesus’ cloak; body and soul healed.

Acts 3:1-10—Lame man walks, leaps, and praises God, attracting many to the gospel.

Because He “took on our infirmities and carried our diseases,” we can confidently lay every physical symptom and every spiritual wound at His feet, knowing that His compassion and power remain unchanged.
