How does God's glory guide Christians?
How does seeking God's glory influence our actions and decisions as Christians?

When a Servant Dares to Ask: “Show Me Your Glory”

“Then Moses said, ‘Please show me Your glory.’” (Exodus 33:18)

Moses’ request is startlingly direct. He had already witnessed the plagues, the Red Sea crossing, and the pillar of cloud and fire—yet he knew there was more of God to see. That longing sets the pattern for every believer: pursuing God’s glory becomes the compass for every decision.

What We Mean by “God’s Glory”

• God’s revealed character—His holiness, power, goodness, and beauty made visible (Exodus 33:19; Isaiah 6:3).

• The intrinsic worth of God put on display so others can recognize and respond (Psalm 19:1).

• The central purpose for all creation and redemption (Revelation 4:11).

Why Seeking His Glory Transforms Us

1. Re-centers our motives

• “Whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all to the glory of God.” (1 Corinthians 10:31)

• Choices move from “What benefits me?” to “Will this magnify Him?”

2. Clarifies our moral boundaries

• God’s glory is inseparable from His holiness (Leviticus 10:3).

• Any action that contradicts Scripture cannot honor Him, no matter how advantageous it seems.

3. Fuels perseverance

• Suffering becomes meaningful when we aim to display His worth (2 Corinthians 4:17).

• Knowing God uses trials to show His strength steadies us in hardship.

4. Inspires excellence

• “Whatever you do in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus.” (Colossians 3:17)

• Halfhearted efforts misrepresent the splendor of our King.

Practical Areas Where His Glory Governs Decision-Making

• Speech

– Build up, not tear down (Ephesians 4:29).

– Refuse gossip; reflect truth and grace.

• Relationships

– Pursue reconciliation (Matthew 5:24).

– Treat every person as an image-bearer, resisting prejudice.

• Work and Study

– Integrity over convenience (Proverbs 11:3).

– Diligence that points beyond self-promotion to the God who equips.

• Finances

– Steward resources generously (2 Corinthians 9:6-8).

– Avoid debt-driven lifestyles that enslave and dim testimony.

• Leisure

– Choose entertainment that aligns with Philippians 4:8.

– Rest with gratitude, not escapism.

Living in the Afterglow

When Moses descended from Sinai, “the skin of his face shone because he had spoken with the LORD” (Exodus 34:29). Likewise, time spent pursuing God’s glory inevitably radiates outward. Others see Christ in us (Matthew 5:16), and our ordinary moments become stages where the extraordinary worth of God is revealed.

In what ways can we prepare ourselves to experience God's presence today?
