How can we draw strength from Jesus' ascension "into the heavens"? Our Verse Anchor “Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we profess.” (Hebrews 4:14) Holding Firm Because He Passed Through the Heavens • “Passed through the heavens” points to a bodily, historical ascension (Acts 1:9–11). • His ascent confirms His work is finished (Hebrews 10:12). • Because He is enthroned, we can “hold firmly” without wavering, no matter the pressure. Strength That Flows From His Ascension 1. Ongoing Representation • “He always lives to intercede for them.” (Hebrews 7:25) • The ascended Christ actively pleads our case; earthly accusations lose their power (Romans 8:34). 2. Supreme Authority • God “seated Him at His right hand… far above every rule and authority.” (Ephesians 1:20-21) • Evil forces, cultural shifts, and personal crises are beneath His feet (1 Peter 3:22). 3. Guaranteed Access • “We have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus.” (Hebrews 10:19) • Prayer is not a ritual; it is welcomed conversation with the King who opened the door Himself. 4. Secured Future • “I go to prepare a place for you.” (John 14:2) • Our final home is as certain as His presence there now; hope becomes an anchor for the soul (Hebrews 6:19-20). 5. Empowering Gift • After ascending, He “gave gifts to men.” (Ephesians 4:8) • Every spiritual gift and ministry ability comes from the risen, reigning Christ, not from our own strength. Practical Ways to Draw on That Strength • Rehearse the truth aloud: Jesus is alive, enthroned, and for me. • Approach the throne daily with specific needs, expecting mercy and help (Hebrews 4:16). • Face temptation by remembering the Victor who intercedes; resist under His authority. • Serve boldly, knowing ascension power equips every act of love (Philippians 2:9-11). • Anchor hope in His return; the One who went up will “come in the same way” (Acts 1:11). Living the Ascension Reality The sight of our Great High Priest in heaven changes everything. His finished work, present advocacy, and future promise combine to fortify weary hearts. Hold firmly—your Savior has already passed through the heavens, and His strength is yours today. |
