How to align plans with God's will?
In what ways can we ensure our plans align with God's will?

Setting the Scene

Jeremiah 48:2: “There is no longer praise for Moab; in Heshbon they have plotted evil against her: ‘Come, let us cut her off from being a nation!’ You too, O Madmen, will be silenced; the sword will pursue you.”

Moab’s leaders formed a plan that ignored God’s authority. Their self-directed strategy brought judgment, not success. From this negative example springs a positive call: build every plan on the sure foundation of God’s revealed will.

The Danger of Self-Made Plans

Proverbs 16:25 warns of a way that seems right but ends in death.

James 4:13-15 reminds believers that life and success belong to the Lord, who can override any agenda.

• When motives mirror Moab’s—self-exalting, destructive, independent—failure is certain, even if results appear impressive for a season.

Four Ways to Sync Our Plans with God’s Will

1. Surrender the heart before forming the agenda

Romans 12:1-2—offer yourself as a living sacrifice and let God renew the mind.

Psalm 37:4-5—delight in Him first, then commit your way.

2. Saturate decisions with Scripture

Psalm 119:105—His Word lights the path.

2 Timothy 3:16—teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training keep plans on course.

3. Seek the Spirit through prayer and godly counsel

James 1:5—ask for wisdom and expect it.

Proverbs 15:22—many advisors secure success.

Colossians 3:15—let Christ’s peace rule as the umpire in the heart.

4. Watch for providential confirmation

Revelation 3:7—Christ opens and shuts doors.

Isaiah 30:21—He guides with a steady “This is the way.”

Psalm 37:23—the steps of the righteous are ordered by the Lord.

Scripture Map for Decision Making

• Examine motive: 1 Corinthians 10:31.

• Compare idea to biblical commands: Exodus 20; Matthew 5-7.

• Pray persistently: Philippians 4:6-7.

• Consult mature believers: Hebrews 13:7.

• Move forward in faith, leaving results to God: Proverbs 16:3.

Living It Out

• Filter every dream through the Word before drafting timelines and budgets.

• Welcome the Lord’s mid-course corrections without resentment.

• Celebrate doors He closes as much as doors He opens, trusting His goodness.

• Keep gratitude central, knowing that a God-aligned plan always advances His glory and our ultimate joy.
