How to inspire repentance today?
In what ways can we encourage others to heed God's call to repentance today?

The Clear Call — Acts 17:30

“God overlooked the times of ignorance, but now He commands all people everywhere to repent.”

The Foundation of Repentance in Scripture

2 Peter 3:9 — God “is patient… not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”

Luke 13:3 — “Unless you repent, you too will all perish.”

Acts 3:19 — “Repent, then, and turn back, so that your sins may be wiped away.”

Romans 2:4 — God’s kindness is meant to lead us to repentance.

Why Repentance Matters Today

• Sin still separates people from God (Isaiah 59:2).

• Judgment is certain (Hebrews 9:27).

• Eternal life is offered now (John 3:16–18).

• Repentance brings forgiveness, refreshment, and joy (Proverbs 28:13; Psalm 51:12).

Creating a Climate for Repentance

• Cultivate authentic, Christ-like relationships; people repent more readily when they feel loved.

• Maintain personal holiness; a pure life gives weight to the message (1 Peter 2:12).

• Celebrate testimonies of changed lives; stories illustrate God’s power (Revelation 12:11).

Speaking With Grace and Truth

• Begin with common ground, just as Paul did in Athens (Acts 17:22-23).

• Present God’s holiness and justice first, then His mercy (Psalm 89:14).

• Use clear, simple language—avoid jargon that obscures the gospel.

• Invite response; God “commands,” not merely suggests, repentance.

Using Scripture Effectively

• Memorize key repentance passages (Mark 1:15; Ezekiel 18:30-32).

• Read the text aloud; God’s Word is “living and active” (Hebrews 4:12).

• Let Scripture interpret Scripture—tie New Testament calls to Old Testament promises.

Living Examples That Attract

• Model daily confession and repentance; authenticity disarms hypocrisy claims.

• Display visible fruit—love, joy, peace—showing repentance is life-giving (Galatians 5:22-23).

• Serve sacrificially; good works “adorn the doctrine of God” (Titus 2:10).

Prayer and Dependence on the Spirit

• Intercede specifically for hearts to soften (Ezekiel 36:26).

• Ask for boldness and clarity (Ephesians 6:19-20).

• Trust the Spirit to convict of sin, righteousness, and judgment (John 16:8).

Expecting Fruit

• God’s Word will not return void (Isaiah 55:11).

• Some plant, others water, but God gives the growth (1 Corinthians 3:6-7).

• Rejoice when even one sinner repents (Luke 15:7).
