How to ready hearts like Solomon's temple?
In what ways can we prepare our hearts as Solomon prepared the temple?

Setting the Scene

“Solomon began building the house of God in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah… He began building on the second day of the second month in the fourth year of his reign.” (2 Chronicles 3:1–2)

Seeing Our Hearts as God’s Temple

• “Do you not know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?” (1 Corinthians 3:16)

• Just as Solomon’s temple was a physical dwelling for God’s glory, the believer’s heart is now the spiritual dwelling place.

Clearing the Site: Removing Spiritual Debris

2 Chronicles 2:17 records Solomon counting foreign laborers—he knew exactly what was on-site. Likewise:

– Examine motives (Psalm 139:23–24).

– Confess sin immediately (1 John 1:9).

– Cast off every hindrance (Hebrews 12:1).

Laying a Solid Foundation

• Solomon built on Mount Moriah, already a place of sacrifice (Genesis 22). Our foundation is Jesus Christ:

– “For no one can lay a foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.” (1 Corinthians 3:11)

– Daily reaffirm trust in His finished work (Ephesians 2:20).

Aligning Every Measurement to God’s Word

• Solomon followed exact dimensions (1 Kings 6:2). Measure your life by Scripture:

– Meditate day and night (Joshua 1:8).

– Let the Word judge thoughts and attitudes (Hebrews 4:12).

– Obey promptly (James 1:22).

Using Only Sanctified Materials

• Temple stones were finished at the quarry so no hammer was heard on-site (1 Kings 6:7). Bring only purified attitudes into the heart:

– Pure thoughts (Philippians 4:8).

– Clean hands and a pure heart (Psalm 24:3–4).

Setting the Timing: Intentional Seasons of Preparation

• “On the second day of the second month…”—specific timing shows planning. Schedule regular times for:

– Fasting and prayer (Matthew 6:16–18).

– Scripture intake plans.

– Silent reflection (Psalm 46:10).

Embellishing with Worship

• Solomon overlaid the inner sanctuary with gold (2 Chronicles 3:4–8). Adorn your heart with:

– Songs and hymns (Ephesians 5:19).

– Continual gratitude (1 Thessalonians 5:18).

– Sacrifices of praise (Hebrews 13:15).

Guarding the Gates

• The temple had guarded entrances (2 Chronicles 23:19). Protect your heart:

– “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” (Proverbs 4:23)

– Set boundaries on media, relationships, and influences.

Hosting God’s Presence Daily

• When the temple was finished, “the glory of the LORD filled the house” (2 Chronicles 5:13–14). Pursue ongoing fellowship:

– Walk in the Spirit (Galatians 5:16).

– Keep short accounts with God and others (Matthew 5:23–24).

– Expect His guidance in every decision (Proverbs 3:5–6).

Living as a Consecrated Temple

Solomon’s careful, deliberate preparation led to a place where God’s glory visibly dwelled. By clearing debris, laying Christ as our foundation, measuring life by Scripture, adorning with worship, guarding the gates, and hosting His presence, we prepare our hearts in the same manner—becoming living temples that reflect His glory to the world.
