How can we "proclaim the virtues" of God in our communities? Our Focus Verse 1 Peter 2:9: “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, to proclaim the virtues of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.” Our Identity: Chosen to Proclaim • We belong to God—His treasured possession. • We serve as royal priests—bridges between heaven and earth. • We form a holy nation—set apart for His purposes. Because of who we are, proclaiming His virtues is not optional; it is the very reason we exist. What Are the Virtues We Proclaim? • His holiness (Isaiah 6:3) • His steadfast love (Psalm 136:1) • His saving power (Romans 1:16) • His faithfulness (Lamentations 3:22-23) • His wisdom (Romans 11:33) • His justice and mercy meeting at the cross (Psalm 85:10) How Do We Proclaim in Our Communities? • WORDS THAT SHINE – Share the gospel plainly and confidently (Romans 1:16). – Speak Scripture in everyday conversation (Deuteronomy 6:6-7). – Keep speech gracious, seasoned with salt (Colossians 4:5-6). • ACTIONS THAT ILLUSTRATE – Live visibly upright lives so others “see your good deeds and glorify your Father” (Matthew 5:16). – Demonstrate sacrificial love; “By this all men will know that you are My disciples” (John 13:35). – Show integrity at work and school (Colossians 3:17). • SERVICE THAT HEALS – Feed the hungry, visit the lonely, defend the weak—works that echo Jesus’ heart (Matthew 25:40). – Partner with local ministries; let tangible kindness open doors for verbal witness (1 John 3:18). • SUFFERING THAT TESTIFIES – Endure hardship with hope, reflecting Christ’s patience (1 Peter 2:20-21). – Respond to hostility with blessing (1 Peter 3:15-16). • WORSHIP THAT ATTRACTS – Gather faithfully; joyful, truth-filled worship announces His worth (Psalm 96:3). – Use music, art, and creativity to display His beauty. • HOSPITALITY THAT INVITES – Open homes and tables; share meals where gospel conversations flow (Romans 12:13). – Welcome newcomers and outsiders as family (Hebrews 13:2). • CULTURE ENGAGEMENT THAT REDEEMS – Contribute to community life—schools, councils, charities—bringing a Christian worldview. – Produce quality work that showcases excellence and integrity (Proverbs 22:29). Living Daily in His Marvelous Light We once walked in darkness; now His light defines us. Each conversation, act of kindness, and moment of courage becomes a spotlight on His greatness. As we abide in Christ and obey His Word, our communities see, hear, and feel the virtues of God—and He receives the glory He deserves. |
