How to trust God in drought times?
In what ways can we trust God during times of drought, as in Jeremiah 14:5?

Framing the Verse

“Even the doe in the field deserts her newborn fawn because there is no grass.” (Jeremiah 14:5)

Seeing Beyond the Scene

• The drought is so severe that even a gentle, nurturing doe abandons her fawn.

• God gives this graphic picture to show how desperate Judah’s situation has become—and yet to call His people back to Himself.

Trust Anchored in God’s Character

• He is faithful—“The LORD is trustworthy in all He promises and faithful in all He does.” (Psalm 145:13)

• He is Provider—“I am the LORD your God, who brought you up out of Egypt. Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.” (Psalm 81:10)

• He never forsakes—“For the LORD will not forsake His people for His great name’s sake.” (1 Samuel 12:22)

Why We Can Still Rely on Him

• His covenant love (hesed) does not dry up when circumstances do.

• Past deliverances prove He specializes in impossible shortages (Exodus 16; 1 Kings 17:7-16).

• Drought—literal or figurative—often prepares the soil of our hearts for a deeper harvest of faith (Hebrews 12:11).

Practical Ways to Lean on the Lord in Drought

1. Recount His past faithfulness

– Keep a simple list of answered prayers and provisions.

2. Saturate your mind with promised provision

– “My God will supply all your needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19)

3. Act in obedient stewardship

– Keep giving, serving, and working with integrity, trusting God to multiply the little you hold.

4. Seek communal encouragement

– Share needs with fellow believers; God often waters dry fields through His people (Acts 2:44-45).

5. Guard against bitterness

– Replace complaint with thanksgiving: “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” (1 Thessalonians 5:18)

Encouragement from Other Scriptures

Psalm 37:19—“In the days of famine they will be satisfied.”

Isaiah 41:17-18—God promises rivers on barren heights and fountains in valleys.

Joel 2:25-26—He can restore “the years the locust has eaten.”

Living Water for Dry Seasons

Jesus calls, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink.” (John 7:37)

• The ultimate trust in drought is to draw from the well that never runs dry—Christ Himself (John 4:14).

• Earthly shortages remind us that only spiritual abundance in Him fully satisfies.

Hold fast: the same God who notes a starving doe also sees every sparrow—and every believer walking through drought.

How should believers respond to environmental issues, reflecting on Jeremiah 14:5?
