Incorporate Jacob's worship daily?
How can we incorporate Jacob's example of worship into our daily lives?

Jacob’s Act of Worship at Bethel

“Jacob set up a pillar in the place where God had spoken with him—a stone marker—and he poured out a drink offering on it and anointed it with oil.” (Genesis 35:14)

What Jacob Did

• Set up a visible memorial: “a stone marker.”

• Marked it with costly devotion: “poured out a drink offering.”

• Consecrated it to God: “anointed it with oil.”

• Acted immediately after hearing God’s word (cf. Genesis 35:1–3).

Heart Posture Behind the Actions

• Gratitude for God’s faithfulness (Genesis 28:15 fulfilled).

• Submission to God’s lordship—nothing held back.

• Desire to remember and retell what God had done.

Translating Jacob’s Pattern into Our Days

1. Tangible Reminders

• Keep a journal, stone, or object that marks answered prayer (1 Samuel 7:12).

• Display Scripture in your home (Deuteronomy 6:6-9) so every glance stirs worship.

2. Costly Offerings

• Give time, resources, or comfort you’d prefer to keep (2 Samuel 24:24).

• Pour out words of praise even in hardship (Psalm 116:12-14; Hebrews 13:15).

3. Consecration Moments

• Dedicate spaces—desk, kitchen, car—to God’s purposes with spoken blessing.

• Begin tasks by inviting the Holy Spirit’s filling, like oil setting something apart (Exodus 30:25-30).

4. Immediate Obedience

• When Scripture or the Spirit prompts, respond before convenience sets in (James 1:22).

• Schedule firstfruits of day and income rather than leftovers (Proverbs 3:9).

A Daily Pattern Inspired by Jacob

Morning

• Offer yourself: “Present your bodies as a living sacrifice” (Romans 12:1).

• Read a short passage, note one phrase to carry as your “pillar” for the day.

Mid-day

• Pause and “pour out” thanksgiving aloud (Psalm 34:1).

• Give something away—encouragement, kindness, or material help.

Evening

• Review where God spoke; record it.

• Anoint tomorrow in prayerful dedication, committing plans to Him (Proverbs 16:3).

Scripture Connections That Reinforce the Pattern

Genesis 28:18—Jacob’s first pillar shows consistency in worship.

Leviticus 23:37—drink offerings symbolize joyful devotion.

2 Timothy 4:6—our lives can be “poured out” the same way.

Colossians 3:17—“Whatever you do…do it in the name of the Lord Jesus.”

Living It Out

Jacob’s pillar at Bethel was a bold, public declaration that God had spoken and Jacob would remember. By setting up our own everyday “pillars,” pouring out costly praise, and consecrating every task to Christ, we echo that same worship—turning ordinary days into holy ground.
