Steps to take when seeing injustice?
What practical steps can we take when witnessing injustice as described in Ecclesiastes 8:14?

Setting the Scene: Ecclesiastes 8:14

“There is a futility that is done on earth: the righteous who get what the wicked deserve, and the wicked who get what the righteous deserve—I say that this too is futile.”

Step 1: Acknowledge the Brokenness, Anchor in Truth

• Refuse denial—call injustice what it is (Isaiah 5:20).

• Remember God’s character: “The LORD is righteous in all His ways” (Psalm 145:17).

• Hold both realities together: evil still happens, yet God remains sovereign (Romans 8:28).

Step 2: Bring the Matter to God in Persistent Prayer

• Pour out lament like the psalmists (Psalm 10:1–2; Psalm 73:13).

• Intercede for victims and oppressors alike (1 Timothy 2:1–2).

• Ask for wisdom and courage to act (James 1:5).

Step 3: Speak Up—Advocate with Courage and Grace

• “Open your mouth for the mute” (Proverbs 31:8–9).

• Tell truth without slander (Ephesians 4:15, 29).

• Use available platforms—conversations, letters, civic processes—to spotlight wrongdoing.

Step 4: Live Justly in Daily Choices

• Conduct business and relationships with integrity (Leviticus 19:35–36).

• Reject partiality; treat each person as an image-bearer (James 2:1–9).

• Model repentance when you are in the wrong (Matthew 5:23–24).

Step 5: Offer Tangible Aid to the Oppressed

• Meet practical needs—food, shelter, legal help (James 2:14–17).

• Partner with trustworthy ministries that defend the vulnerable (Galatians 6:10).

• Give sacrificially, remembering “it is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35).

Step 6: Refuse Bitterness; Rest in God’s Future Judgment

• “Do not avenge yourselves…‘Vengeance is Mine; I will repay,’ says the Lord” (Romans 12:19).

• Look ahead to the day when “God will bring every deed into judgment” (Ecclesiastes 12:14).

• Forgive offenders while still pursuing justice (Colossians 3:13).

Step 7: Cultivate Joy and Hope While You Wait

• Follow Solomon’s counsel: “So I commended enjoyment” (Ecclesiastes 8:15).

• Rejoice in the Lord always (Philippians 4:4).

• Fix your eyes on the promised new heavens and new earth “where righteousness dwells” (2 Peter 3:13).

How can we reconcile Ecclesiastes 8:14 with Romans 8:28's promise of good?
