Teach God's commands daily to kids?
How can you diligently teach God's commands to your children daily?

Remember the Charge

Deuteronomy 6:7

“And you shall teach them diligently to your children and speak of them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you rise up.”

The command is literal, comprehensive, and daily. Every setting, every moment, every posture becomes a classroom.

Let Scripture Echo in Every Room

• Keep an open Bible on the table or counter; read a short portion aloud as meals begin (Matthew 4:4).

• Display verses on walls, mirrors, or chalkboards—visual cues that God’s words govern the household (Deuteronomy 6:9).

• Play audio Scripture while cooking, driving, or during chores; children absorb truth even when hands are busy.

Talk While You Walk

• Point out creation: “The heavens declare the glory of God” (Psalm 19:1).

• When a headline or billboard appears, filter it through Scripture out loud, showing how God’s standards apply to culture.

• Use travel time for informal Q&A, retelling Bible events or memorizing verses together (Luke 24:27).

Weave Truth into Routines

Morning

• Greet the day with a family verse recited together—“This is the day the LORD has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it” (Psalm 118:24).

• Pray the verse’s truth over the coming tasks.

Mealtime

• Share one biblical principle connected to something that happened today.

• Invite each child to recall a verse that speaks to gratitude or kindness.

Bedtime

• Read a narrative passage (e.g., Mark 4:35–41) and briefly highlight God’s character.

• End with a blessing from Numbers 6:24–26, letting children drift to sleep under spoken Scripture.

Model Obedience and Joy

• Let children see you choose honesty when it costs (Proverbs 10:9).

• Confess quickly when you sin against them, quoting 1 John 1:9 to show how God forgives.

• Celebrate answered prayer; keep a visible list of God’s faithfulness (Psalm 78:4).

Use Everyday Moments for Instruction

• Conflict between siblings? Read Ephesians 4:32 together and practice forgiveness on the spot.

• Fear of the dark? Quote Psalm 56:3 and pray.

• Success at school? Acknowledge James 1:17—every good gift is from above.

Leverage Songs and Memory

• Scripture-rich songs make truth stick; sing them in the car or while cleaning (Colossians 3:16).

• Create family challenges: who can recite Psalm 23 or the Beatitudes first? Reward with a simple privilege.

Tell the Big Story Repeatedly

• Trace the gospel through Genesis 3:15, Isaiah 53, John 3:16, 1 Corinthians 15:3-4.

• Explain how each story, law, or prophecy points to Christ; children learn to see Scripture as one unified narrative.

Equip for Independent Intake

• As reading skills grow, give each child a Bible and a simple reading plan (2 Timothy 3:15).

• Teach them to underline key words, jot questions, and pray over what they read.

Correct and Encourage with the Word

• Discipline is anchored in Scripture: “Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord” (Ephesians 6:4).

• Affirm obedience with verses of commendation (Psalm 1:1-3).

Sow in Faith, Trust the Harvest

• God’s promise stands: “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old, he will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6).

• Your diligence is an act of faith; the Spirit applies the truth planted day by day.
