How can we trust Jesus' power in our own life challenges today? Setting the Scene Luke 7:14 paints a vivid moment outside the town gate of Nain: “Then He went up and touched the coffin, and those carrying it stood still. ‘Young man,’ He said, ‘I tell you, get up!’”. A grieving mother, a silent crowd, and a corpse meet the One whose word overrides death itself. Seeing Jesus’ Power on Display • One touch, one command, and life rushes back. • No ritual, no incantation—only the authoritative voice of the Son of God. • The crowd’s fear turns to awe (v.16), reminding us that divine power both unsettles and reassures. What This Means for Our Challenges • If death—the greatest enemy—must obey Jesus, every lesser challenge is already beneath His feet. • His authority is not diminished by time; “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8). • Because He is alive, His power is presently available. “Because I live, you also will live” (John 14:19). Anchoring Our Trust: Three Solid Reasons 1. Proven Ability • Resurrection power demonstrated here, at Lazarus’ tomb (John 11), and ultimately in His own empty grave (Luke 24:6). • Colossians 1:17 affirms, “In Him all things hold together”. If He holds the universe, He can hold your situation. 2. Compassionate Heart • Jesus “saw her” and “was moved with compassion” (Luke 7:13, paraphrased). • The same heart still beats for us: “Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7). 3. Unbreakable Promises • “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me” (Matthew 28:18). • “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9). Weakness becomes a platform for His strength. Living It Out • Name the “coffin” you’re facing—financial strain, relational breakdown, lingering guilt. Bring it into His presence. • Speak His Word over your situation. Memorize and declare verses like Psalm 46:1: “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in times of trouble”. • Expect Him to act, though not always in expected ways. Whether He changes circumstances or changes us, His power will be evident. • Share testimonies of His intervention; like the Nain villagers, others will “glorify God” (Luke 7:16) when they see His power in your life. |
