What does God's power reveal?
What does "Your great power and outstretched arm" reveal about God's nature?

The phrase in Scripture

“Ah, Lord GOD! You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too difficult for You!” (Jeremiah 32:17)

Great power—God’s limitless ability

• He speaks worlds into existence (Genesis 1:1–3)

• He parts seas and topples empires (Exodus 14:21–31; Daniel 2:21)

• His power knows no obstacle: “Nothing is too difficult for You” (Jeremiah 32:17)

Outstretched arm—God’s personal involvement

• An arm reaches out; He is not aloof.

• He rescues: “I will redeem you with an outstretched arm” (Exodus 6:6).

• He shepherds: “He gathers the lambs in His arms” (Isaiah 40:11).

Transcendent yet near

• Great power shows He is far above creation.

• Outstretched arm shows He bends down into it.

• The two images together display a God who both rules the universe and steps into human history.

Echoes across Scripture

• Deliverance from Egypt: “The LORD brought us out…with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm” (Deuteronomy 26:8).

• Sustaining Israel in the land: “You drove out nations…for Your people whom You redeemed by Your great power” (2 Samuel 7:23).

• Salvation in Christ: “He has performed mighty deeds with His arm” (Luke 1:51).

• Ongoing care: “Surely the arm of the LORD is not too short to save” (Isaiah 59:1).

What God’s nature looks like in daily life

• Confidence: Because nothing is too hard for Him, we pray expectantly (Ephesians 3:20).

• Security: The same arm that scattered Egypt now upholds His children (Deuteronomy 33:27).

• Hope: His power guarantees final victory; His nearness guarantees present help (Psalm 46:1).
