2 Chronicles 29:11
Now, my sons, do not be negligent, for the LORD has chosen you to stand before Him, to serve Him, to minister before Him, and to burn incense."
Now, my sons,

Hezekiah addressed the priests and Levites with the concern of a spiritual father, calling them to share fully in Judah’s return to the LORD. Their obedience was essential to restoring the temple worship that Ahaz had abandoned.

Pro 4:1 Listen, my sons, to a father’s instruction;…
Psa 34:11 Come, children, listen to me; I will teach you…

do not be negligent,

The closed temple, neglected sacrifices, and defiled sanctuary had brought God’s judgment upon Judah. The cleansing already underway required steadfast service from those appointed to guard and conduct the worship of God.

Jer 48:10 Cursed is the one who is remiss in doing the work…
1Ti 4:14 Do not neglect the gift that is in you…

for the LORD has chosen you

The Levites had been set apart by God for His sanctuary, and the sons of Aaron were appointed for the priestly duties. Their office rested on God’s command rather than personal ambition, making faithfulness a sacred obligation.

Deu 18:5 For the LORD your God has chosen Levi and his sons…
1Sa 2:28 And out of all the tribes of Israel I selected your father…

to stand before Him,

Temple service was performed before the presence of the LORD, who had placed His name in Jerusalem. The privilege of drawing near to God demanded reverence, purity, and readiness.

Deu 18:7 then he shall serve in the name of the LORD his God…
Jer 15:19 Therefore this is what the LORD says: “If you return,…

to serve Him,

Their labor involved more than maintaining religious ceremonies. Every duty in the restored temple was an act of obedience to the covenant God and a means of leading the nation back to faithful worship.

Deu 6:13 Fear the LORD your God, serve Him only, and take your oaths…
Jos 24:14 Now, therefore, fear the LORD and serve Him…

to minister before Him,

The priests represented the people before God through sacrifices, prayer, teaching, and intercession. Their ministry pointed forward to Christ, the perfect High Priest who brings His people into God’s presence.

Deu 10:8 At that time the LORD set apart the tribe of Levi…
1Ch 16:37 So David left Asaph and his associates there…

and to burn incense.”

Incense belonged to the priestly service and symbolized prayer rising before the LORD. As the temple worship was restored, Judah was called again to seek God with repentant hearts and renewed devotion.

Having therefore these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.'--2 Cor. vii. 1. That holiness is more than cleansing, and must be preceded by it, is taught us in more than one passage of the New Testament. 'Christ loved the Church, and gave Himself up for it, that He might sanctify it, having cleansed it by the washing of water with the word.' 'If a man cleanse himself from these, he shall be a vessel

Chronicles
The comparative indifference with which Chronicles is regarded in modern times by all but professional scholars seems to have been shared by the ancient Jewish church. Though written by the same hand as wrote Ezra-Nehemiah, and forming, together with these books, a continuous history of Judah, it is placed after them in the Hebrew Bible, of which it forms the concluding book; and this no doubt points to the fact that it attained canonical distinction later than they. Nor is this unnatural. The book
