With the plague ended, the Lord prepared a new generation to enter the land promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Judgment had removed those under discipline, yet God’s covenant purpose for His people continued. Num 25:8 followed the Israelite into the tent… the LORD said to Moses The Lord continued to direct Israel personally through Moses as the nation stood on the plains of Moab, east of the Jordan. Moses would lead the census and final preparations for the land he himself would not enter, faithfully serving God’s purposes to the end. Num 25:10 Then the LORD said to Moses, and Eleazar son of Aaron the priest, Eleazar had succeeded Aaron as high priest after Aaron’s death on Mount Hor. His presence joined priestly oversight to Moses’ civil leadership as Israel was numbered and organized for inheritance in Canaan. The continuing priesthood testified to God’s provision for access to Him through sacrifice and mediation, ultimately fulfilled in Christ, the eternal High Priest.
