Humility

Humility is a fundamental virtue in the Christian faith, characterized by a modest view of one's own importance and a recognition of one's dependence on God. The Bible consistently emphasizes the importance of humility as a key attribute of a faithful believer. In the Old Testament, humility is often associated with wisdom and the fear of the Lord. Proverbs 22:4 states, "The rewards of humility and the fear of the LORD are wealth and honor and life."

In the New Testament, Jesus Christ serves as the ultimate example of humility. Philippians 2:5-8 describes how Jesus, though being in the form of God, "emptied Himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to death—even death on a cross." This passage highlights the selfless nature of Christ's humility, which believers are called to emulate.

Humility is also a prerequisite for receiving God's grace. James 4:6 declares, "But He gives us more grace. This is why it says: 'God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.'" This verse underscores the idea that humility opens the door to divine favor and spiritual growth.

Respect for God's Servants

Respect for God's servants is a biblical principle that underscores the importance of honoring those who are called to lead and minister within the Christian community. The Bible provides numerous examples and instructions regarding the treatment of God's appointed leaders.

In the Old Testament, respect for God's servants is evident in the relationship between the Israelites and their leaders, such as Moses and the prophets. Numbers 12:6-8 illustrates God's defense of Moses when Aaron and Miriam spoke against him: "With him I speak face to face, clearly and not in riddles; he sees the form of the LORD. Why then were you not afraid to speak against My servant Moses?"

The New Testament continues this theme, emphasizing the need to honor and support those who labor in the ministry. 1 Thessalonians 5:12-13 instructs believers: "But we ask you, brothers, to acknowledge those who work diligently among you, who preside over you in the Lord and give you instruction. In love, hold them in highest regard because of their work. Live in peace with one another."

Furthermore, Hebrews 13:17 advises, "Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they keep watch over your souls as those who must give an account. To this end, allow them to lead with joy and not with grief, for that would be of no advantage to you." This passage highlights the responsibility of believers to support their leaders, recognizing the weighty responsibility these servants bear.

Respect for God's servants is not only a matter of personal conduct but also a reflection of one's reverence for God Himself. By honoring those whom God has appointed, believers demonstrate their commitment to the order and authority established by God within the church.
