The term "regular" is not explicitly found in the Bible; however, the concept of regularity, order, and routine is woven throughout the Scriptures. The Bible emphasizes the importance of regular practices in the life of a believer, such as prayer, worship, and adherence to God's commandments.

Regular Worship and Sacrifices

In the Old Testament, God established regular patterns of worship and sacrifice for the Israelites. The Levitical laws outlined specific times and methods for offerings, emphasizing the importance of regularity in worship. For instance, the daily offerings were a key aspect of Israelite worship: "This is the regular burnt offering instituted at Mount Sinai as a pleasing aroma, an offering made by fire to the LORD" (Exodus 29:42). These regular sacrifices were a constant reminder of the people's covenant relationship with God.

Regular Prayer

The practice of regular prayer is a significant theme in the Bible. Daniel is a notable example of someone who maintained a disciplined prayer life. Despite the threat of persecution, Daniel continued his regular practice: "Now when Daniel learned that the document had been signed, he went into his house, where the windows of his upper room opened toward Jerusalem, and three times a day he got down on his knees, prayed, and gave thanks to his God, just as he had done before" (Daniel 6:10). This regularity in prayer reflects a deep commitment to God and reliance on His guidance.

Regular Study of Scripture

The Bible encourages believers to engage regularly with God's Word. In the New Testament, the Bereans are commended for their diligent study: "Now the Bereans were more noble-minded than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if these teachings were true" (Acts 17:11). Regular study of Scripture is portrayed as a noble pursuit, essential for spiritual growth and discernment.

Regular Fellowship

The early church exemplified regular fellowship among believers. Acts 2:42 describes the early Christians: "They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer" . This regular gathering for teaching, fellowship, and prayer was foundational to the strength and unity of the early church.

Regularity in Christian Living

The New Testament also speaks to the regularity of Christian virtues and behaviors. Believers are called to consistently exhibit the fruit of the Spirit, as outlined in Galatians 5:22-23. Regularity in love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control is a mark of a life transformed by the Holy Spirit.

Conclusion

While the word "regular" may not appear in the biblical text, the concept is integral to the life of faith. Regular practices such as worship, prayer, study, and fellowship are vital for maintaining a strong relationship with God and living out one's faith in a consistent and disciplined manner.
