The Genealogy of Jesus
(Ruth 4:18–22; Luke 3:23–38)

1This is the record (papyrus roll) of the genealogy of Jesus (YHWH saves) Christ (the Anointed One), the son of David (beloved), the son of Abraham (father of many):

2Abraham (father of many) was the father of Isaac (he will laugh),

Isaac the father of Jacob (he grasps the heel),

and Jacob the father of Judah (praise) and his brothers.

3Judah (praise) was the father of Perez (breaking out) and Zerah (dawning) by Tamar (date palm),

Perez the father of Hezron (surrounded by a wall),

and Hezron the father of Ram (exalted).a

4Ram (exalted) was the father of Amminadab (my kinsman is noble),

Amminadab the father of Nahshon (enchanter),

and Nahshon the father of Salmon (garment).

5Salmon (garment) was the father of Boaz (swiftness) by Rahab (spacious),

Boaz the father of Obed (serving) by Ruth (female friend),

Obed the father of Jesse (gift),

6and Jesse (gift) the father of David (beloved) the king.

Next:

David was the father of Solomon (peace) by Uriah’s (YHWH is my light) wife,

7Solomon (peace) the father of Rehoboam (he enlarges the people),

Rehoboam the father of Abijah (my father is YHWH),

and Abijah the father of Asa \Asaph/.b

8Asa (healer) was the father of Jehoshaphat (YHWH has judged),

Jehoshaphat the father of Joram (YHWH is exalted),

and Joram the father of Uzziah (my power is YHWH).

9Uzziah (my power is YHWH) was the father of Jotham (YHWH is perfect),

Jotham the father of Ahaz (he has grasped),

and Ahaz the father of Hezekiah (YHWH strengthens).

10Hezekiah (YHWH strengthens) was the father of Manasseh (causing to forget),

Manasseh the father of Amon {Amōs},c

Amon the father of Josiah (YHWH supports),

11and Josiah (YHWH supports) the father of Jeconiah (YHWH will establish) and his brothers

at the time of the exile to Babylon (confusion by mixing).

12After the exile to Babylon (confusion by mixing):

Jeconiah (YHWH will establish) was the father of Shealtiel (I have asked of God),

Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel (sown in Babylon),

13Zerubbabel (sown in Babylon) the father of Abiud (my father is majesty),

Abiud the father of Eliakim (God raises),

and Eliakim the father of Azor.

14Azor was the father of Zadok (righteous),

Zadok the father of Achim (he will establish),

and Achim the father of Eliud (God is grandeur).

15Eliud (God is grandeur) was the father of Eleazar (God has helped),

Eleazar the father of Matthan,

Matthan the father of Jacob (he grasps the heel),

16and Jacob (he grasps the heel) the father of Joseph (he will add), the husband of Mary (beloved),

of whom was born Jesus (YHWH saves), who is called Christ (the Anointed One).

17In all, then, there were fourteen generations from Abraham (father of many) to David (beloved), fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon (confusion by mixing), and fourteen from the exile to the Christ (the Anointed One).

The Birth of Jesus
(Isaiah 7:10–16; Luke 2:1–7)

18This is how the birth of Jesus (YHWH saves) Christ (the Anointed One) came about: His mother Mary (beloved) was pledged in marriage to Joseph (he will add), but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit {hagiou pneumatos}. 19Because Joseph (he will add) her husband was a righteous man and was unwilling to disgrace her publicly, he resolved to divorce her quietly.

20But after he had pondered these things, an angel (messenger) of the Lord {Kyriou} appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph (he will add), son of David (beloved), do not be afraid to embrace Mary as your wife, for the One conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit {Hagiou Pneumatos}. 21She will give birth to a Son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus (The LORD saves),d because He will save His people from their sins.”

22All this took place to fulfill what the Lord {Kyriou} had said through the prophet:

23“Behold, the virgin will be with child

and will give birth to a son,

and they will call Him Immanuel \they will call His name Immanuel/”e

(which means, “God {Theos} with us <Isa 7:14, Isa 8:8, Isa 8:10>”f).

24When Joseph (he will add) woke up, he did as the angel (messenger) of the Lord {Kyriou} had commanded him and embraced Mary as his wife. 25But he had no union with her \he did not know her/g until she gave birth to a Son. And he gave Him the name Jesus (YHWH saves).
