2Ἀβραὰμ (Abraham) ἐγέννησεν (begat) τὸν (-) Ἰσαάκ (Isaac),

Ἰσαὰκ (Isaac) δὲ (then) ἐγέννησεν (begat) τὸν (-) Ἰακώβ (Jacob),

Ἰακὼβ (Jacob) δὲ (then) ἐγέννησεν (begat) τὸν (-) Ἰούδαν (Judah) καὶ (and) τοὺς (the) ἀδελφοὺς (brothers) αὐτοῦ (of him).

3Ἰούδας (Judah) δὲ (then) ἐγέννησεν (begat) τὸν (-) Φαρὲς (Perez) καὶ (and) τὸν (-) Ζαρὰ (Zerah) ἐκ (out of) τῆς (-) Θάμαρ (Tamar),

Φαρὲς (Perez) δὲ (then) ἐγέννησεν (begat) τὸν (-) Ἑσρώμ (Hezron),

Ἑσρὼμ (Hezron) δὲ (then) ἐγέννησεν (begat) τὸν (-) Ἀράμ (Ram).

4Ἀρὰμ (Ram) δὲ (then) ἐγέννησεν (begat) τὸν (-) Ἀμιναδάβ (Amminadab),

Ἀμιναδὰβ (Amminadab) δὲ (then) ἐγέννησεν (begat) τὸν (-) Ναασσών (Nahshon),

Ναασσὼν (Nahshon) δὲ (then) ἐγέννησεν (begat) τὸν (-) Σαλμών (Salmon).

5Σαλμὼν (Salmon) δὲ (then) ἐγέννησεν (begat) τὸν (-) Βόες (Boaz) ἐκ (out of) τῆς (-) Ῥαχάβ (Rahab),

Βόες (Boaz) δὲ (then) ἐγέννησεν (begat) τὸν (-) Ἰωβὴδ (Obed) ἐκ (out of) τῆς (-) Ῥούθ (Ruth),

Ἰωβὴδ (Obed) δὲ (then) ἐγέννησεν (begat) τὸν (-) Ἰεσσαί (Jesse),

6Ἰεσσαὶ (Jesse) δὲ (then) ἐγέννησεν (begat) τὸν (-) Δαυὶδ (David) τὸν (the) βασιλέα (king).

Δαυὶδ (David) δὲ (then) ἐγέννησεν (begat) τὸν (-) Σολομῶνα (Solomon) ἐκ (out of) τῆς (the wife) τοῦ (-) Οὐρίου (of Uriah),

7Σολομὼν (Solomon) δὲ (then) ἐγέννησεν (begat) τὸν (-) Ῥοβοάμ (Rehoboam),

Ῥοβοὰμ (Rehoboam) δὲ (then) ἐγέννησεν (begat) τὸν (-) Ἀβιά (Abijah),

Ἀβιὰ (Abijah) δὲ (then) ἐγέννησεν (begat) τὸν (-) Ἀσάφ (Asa).

8Ἀσὰφ (Asa) δὲ (then) ἐγέννησεν (begat) τὸν (-) Ἰωσαφάτ (Jehoshaphat),

Ἰωσαφὰτ (Jehoshaphat) δὲ (then) ἐγέννησεν (begat) τὸν (-) Ἰωράμ (Joram),

Ἰωρὰμ (Joram) δὲ (then) ἐγέννησεν (begat) τὸν (-) Ὀζίαν (Uzziah).

9Ὀζίας (Uzziah) δὲ (then) ἐγέννησεν (begat) τὸν (-) Ἰωαθάμ (Jotham),

Ἰωαθὰμ (Jotham) δὲ (then) ἐγέννησεν (begat) τὸν (-) Ἄχαζ (Ahaz),

Ἄχαζ (Ahaz) δὲ (then) ἐγέννησεν (begat) τὸν (-) Ἑζεκίαν (Hezekiah).

10Ἑζεκίας (Hezekiah) δὲ (then) ἐγέννησεν (begat) τὸν (-) Μανασσῆ (Manasseh),

Μανασσῆς (Manasseh) δὲ (then) ἐγέννησεν (begat) τὸν (-) Ἀμώς (Amos),

Ἀμὼς (Amos) δὲ (then) ἐγέννησεν (begat) τὸν (-) Ἰωσίαν (Josiah),

11Ἰωσίας (Josiah) δὲ (then) ἐγέννησεν (begat) τὸν (-) Ἰεχονίαν (Jechoniah) καὶ (and) τοὺς (the) ἀδελφοὺς (brothers) αὐτοῦ (of him)

ἐπὶ (at the time) τῆς (of the) μετοικεσίας (carrying away) Βαβυλῶνος (to Babylon).

12Μετὰ (After) δὲ (then) τὴν (the) μετοικεσίαν (carrying away) Βαβυλῶνος (to Babylon):

Ἰεχονίας (Jechoniah) ἐγέννησεν (begat) τὸν (-) Σαλαθιήλ (Shealtiel),

Σαλαθιὴλ (Shealtiel) δὲ (then) ἐγέννησεν (begat) τὸν (-) Ζοροβαβέλ (Zerubbabel),

13Ζοροβαβὲλ (Zerubbabel) δὲ (then) ἐγέννησεν (begat) τὸν (-) Ἀβιούδ (Abiud),

Ἀβιοὺδ (Abiud) δὲ (then) ἐγέννησεν (begat) τὸν (-) Ἐλιακίμ (Eliakim),

Ἐλιακὶμ (Eliakim) δὲ (then) ἐγέννησεν (begat) τὸν (-) Ἀζώρ (Azor).

14Ἀζὼρ (Azor) δὲ (then) ἐγέννησεν (begat) τὸν (-) Σαδώκ (Zadok),

Σαδὼκ (Zadok) δὲ (then) ἐγέννησεν (begat) τὸν (-) Ἀχίμ (Achim),

Ἀχὶμ (Achim) δὲ (then) ἐγέννησεν (begat) τὸν (-) Ἐλιούδ (Eliud).

15Ἐλιοὺδ (Eliud) δὲ (then) ἐγέννησεν (begat) τὸν (-) Ἐλεάζαρ (Eleazar),

Ἐλεάζαρ (Eleazar) δὲ (then) ἐγέννησεν (begat) τὸν (-) Ματθάν (Matthan),

Ματθὰν (Matthan) δὲ (then) ἐγέννησεν (begat) τὸν (-) Ἰακώβ (Jacob),

16Ἰακὼβ (Jacob) δὲ (then) ἐγέννησεν (begat) τὸν (-) Ἰωσὴφ (Joseph), τὸν (the) ἄνδρα (husband) Μαρίας (of Mary),

ἐξ (out of) ἧς (whom) ἐγεννήθη (was born) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), ὁ (the One) λεγόμενος (being called) Χριστός (Christ).

17Πᾶσαι (All) οὖν (therefore) αἱ (the) γενεαὶ (generations) ἀπὸ (from) Ἀβραὰμ (Abraham) ἕως (to) Δαυὶδ (David were) γενεαὶ (generations) δεκατέσσαρες (fourteen); καὶ (and) ἀπὸ (from) Δαυὶδ (David) ἕως (until) τῆς (the) μετοικεσίας (carrying away) Βαβυλῶνος (to Babylon), γενεαὶ (generations) δεκατέσσαρες (fourteen); καὶ (and) ἀπὸ (from) τῆς (the) μετοικεσίας (carrying away) Βαβυλῶνος (to Babylon) ἕως (until) τοῦ (the) Χριστοῦ (Christ), γενεαὶ (generations) δεκατέσσαρες (fourteen).

18Τοῦ (-) δὲ (Now) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ) ἡ (the) γένεσις (birth) οὕτως (thus) ἦν (came about): μνηστευθείσης (Having been pledged) τῆς (the) μητρὸς (mother) αὐτοῦ (of Him) Μαρίας (Mary) τῷ (-) Ἰωσήφ (to Joseph), πρὶν (before) ἢ (rather) συνελθεῖν (coming together) αὐτοὺς (of them), εὑρέθη (she was found) ἐν (in) γαστρὶ (womb) ἔχουσα (having a child) ἐκ (out of) πνεύματος (the Spirit) ἁγίου (Holy). 19Ἰωσὴφ (Joseph) δὲ (now), ὁ (the) ἀνὴρ (husband) αὐτῆς (of her), δίκαιος (righteous) ὢν (being), καὶ (and) μὴ (not) θέλων (willing) αὐτὴν (her) δειγματίσαι (to expose publicly), ἐβουλήθη (purposed) λάθρᾳ (secretly) ἀπολῦσαι (to send away) αὐτήν (her).

20Ταῦτα (These things) δὲ (now) αὐτοῦ (of him) ἐνθυμηθέντος (having pondered), ἰδοὺ (behold), ἄγγελος (an angel) Κυρίου (of the Lord) κατ’ (in) ὄναρ (a dream) ἐφάνη (appeared) αὐτῷ (to him), λέγων (saying), “Ἰωσὴφ (Joseph), υἱὸς (son) Δαυίδ (of David), μὴ (not) φοβηθῇς (you should fear) παραλαβεῖν (to receive) Μαρίαν (Mary) τὴν (as the) γυναῖκά (wife) σου (of you); τὸ (that) γὰρ (for) ἐν (in) αὐτῇ (her) γεννηθὲν (having been conceived), ἐκ (from) Πνεύματός (the Spirit) ἐστιν (is), Ἁγίου (Holy). 21τέξεται (She will bear) δὲ (then) υἱὸν (a son), καὶ (and) καλέσεις (you will call) τὸ (the) ὄνομα (name) αὐτοῦ (of Him) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus); αὐτὸς (He) γὰρ (for) σώσει (will save) τὸν (the) λαὸν (people) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἀπὸ (from) τῶν (the) ἁμαρτιῶν (sins) αὐτῶν (of them).”

22Τοῦτο (This) δὲ (then) ὅλον (all) γέγονεν (has come to pass), ἵνα (that) πληρωθῇ (may be fulfilled) τὸ (that) ῥηθὲν (having been spoken) ὑπὸ (by) Κυρίου (the Lord) διὰ (through) τοῦ (the) προφήτου (prophet), λέγοντος (saying),

23“Ἰδοὺ (Behold), ἡ (the) παρθένος (virgin) ἐν (in) γαστρὶ (womb) ἕξει (will hold),

καὶ (and) τέξεται (will bear) υἱόν (a son),

καὶ (and) καλέσουσιν (they will call) τὸ (the) ὄνομα (name) αὐτοῦ (of Him) Ἐμμανουήλ (Immanuel),”a

ὅ (which) ἐστιν (is) μεθερμηνευόμενον (being translated), “Μεθ’ (With) ἡμῶν (us) ὁ (-) Θεός (God).”

24Ἐγερθεὶς (Having been awoken) δὲ (then) ὁ (-) Ἰωσὴφ (Joseph) ἀπὸ (from) τοῦ (the) ὕπνου (sleep), ἐποίησεν (he did) ὡς (as) προσέταξεν (had commanded) αὐτῷ (him) ὁ (the) ἄγγελος (angel) Κυρίου (of the Lord), καὶ (and) παρέλαβεν (received) τὴν (the) γυναῖκα (wife) αὐτοῦ (of him), 25καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἐγίνωσκεν (knew) αὐτὴν (her) ἕως (until) οὗ (that) ἔτεκεν (she had brought forth) υἱόν (a son); καὶ (and) ἐκάλεσεν (he called) τὸ (the) ὄνομα (name) αὐτοῦ (of Him) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus).
