1  וְאֵ֛לֶּה (And these are that) אֲשֶׁר־ (who) נָחֲל֥וּ (inherited) בְנֵֽי־ (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל (of Israel) בְּאֶ֣רֶץ (in the land) כְּנָ֑עַן (of Canaan), אֲשֶׁ֨ר (which) נִֽחֲל֜וּ (distributed as an inheritance) אוֹתָ֗ם (to them) אֶלְעָזָ֤ר (Eleazar) הַכֹּהֵן֙ (the priest), וִיהוֹשֻׁ֣עַ (and Joshua) בִּן־ (son) נ֔וּן (of Nun), וְרָאשֵׁ֛י (and the heads) אֲב֥וֹת (of the fathers) הַמַּטּ֖וֹת (of the tribes) לִבְנֵ֥י (of the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (of Israel), 2  בְּגוֹרַ֖ל (by lot was) נַחֲלָתָ֑ם (their inheritance), כַּאֲשֶׁ֨ר (as) צִוָּ֤ה (had commanded) יְהוָה֙ (YHWH) בְּיַד־ (by the hand) מֹשֶׁ֔ה (of Moses), לְתִשְׁעַ֥ת (for nine) הַמַּטּ֖וֹת (the tribes) וַחֲצִ֥י (and) הַמַּטֶּֽה׃ (the half-tribe). 3  כִּֽי־ (For) נָתַ֨ן (had given) מֹשֶׁ֜ה (Moses) נַחֲלַ֨ת (the inheritance) שְׁנֵ֤י (to two) הַמַּטּוֹת֙ (of the tribes) וַחֲצִ֣י (and) הַמַּטֶּ֔ה (the half-tribe) מֵעֵ֖בֶר (on the other side) לַיַּרְדֵּ֑ן (of the Jordan); וְלַ֨לְוִיִּ֔ם (and to the Levites) לֹֽא־ (not) נָתַ֥ן (he had given) נַחֲלָ֖ה (an inheritance) בְּתוֹכָֽם׃ (in their midst).

4  כִּֽי־ (For) הָי֧וּ (were) בְנֵֽי־ (the sons) יוֹסֵ֛ף (of Joseph) שְׁנֵ֥י (two) מַטּ֖וֹת (tribes), מְנַשֶּׁ֣ה (Manasseh) וְאֶפְרָ֑יִם (and Ephraim), וְלֹֽא־ (and not) נָתְנוּ֩ (they gave) חֵ֨לֶק (a portion) לַלְוִיִּ֜ם (to the Levites) בָּאָ֗רֶץ (in the land), כִּ֤י (if) אִם־ (but) עָרִים֙ (cities) לָשֶׁ֔בֶת (to dwell in), וּמִ֨גְרְשֵׁיהֶ֔ם (and with their pasturelands) לְמִקְנֵיהֶ֖ם (for their livestock) וּלְקִנְיָנָֽם׃ (and their property).

5  כַּאֲשֶׁ֨ר (As) צִוָּ֤ה (had commanded) יְהוָה֙ (YHWH) אֶת־ (-) מֹשֶׁ֔ה (Moses), כֵּ֥ן (so) עָשׂ֖וּ (did) בְּנֵ֣י (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (of Israel), וַֽיַּחְלְק֖וּ (and they divided) אֶת־ (-) הָאָֽרֶץ׃פ (the land).

6  וַיִּגְּשׁ֨וּ (And came near) בְנֵֽי־ (the sons) יְהוּדָ֤ה (of Judah) אֶל־ (to) יְהוֹשֻׁ֙עַ֙ (Joshua) בַּגִּלְגָּ֔ל (in Gilgal), וַיֹּ֣אמֶר (and said) אֵלָ֔יו (to him) כָּלֵ֥ב (Caleb) בֶּן־ (son) יְפֻנֶּ֖ה (of Jephunneh) הַקְּנִזִּ֑י (the Kenizzite), אַתָּ֣ה (You) יָדַ֡עְתָּ (know) אֶֽת־ (-) הַדָּבָר֩ (the word) אֲשֶׁר־ (that) דִּבֶּ֨ר (said) יְהוָ֜ה (YHWH) אֶל־ (to) מֹשֶׁ֣ה (Moses) אִישׁ־ (the man) הָאֱלֹהִ֗ים (of God) עַ֧ל (-) אֹדוֹתַ֛י (concerning me) וְעַ֥ל (and) אֹדוֹתֶ֖יךָ (concerning you) בְּקָדֵ֥שׁ (in Kadesh-) בַּרְנֵֽעַ׃ (barnea). 7  בֶּן־ (A son) אַרְבָּעִ֨ים (of forty) שָׁנָ֜ה (years) אָנֹכִ֗י (I was) בִּ֠שְׁלֹחַ (when sent) מֹשֶׁ֨ה (Moses) עֶֽבֶד־ (the servant) יְהוָ֥ה (of YHWH) אֹתִ֛י (me) מִקָּדֵ֥שׁ (from Kadesh-) בַּרְנֵ֖עַ (barnea) לְרַגֵּ֣ל (to spy out) אֶת־ (-) הָאָ֑רֶץ (the land), וָאָשֵׁ֤ב (and I brought back) אֹתוֹ֙ (to him) דָּבָ֔ר (word) כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר (as) עִם־ (with) לְבָבִֽי׃ (my heart).

8  וְאַחַי֙ (And my brothers) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (who) עָל֣וּ (went up) עִמִּ֔י (with me) הִמְסִ֖יו (made melt) אֶת־ (-) לֵ֣ב (the heart) הָעָ֑ם (of the people), וְאָנֹכִ֣י (and I) מִלֵּ֔אתִי (wholly followed) אַחֲרֵ֖י (after) יְהוָ֥ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהָֽי׃ (my God). 9  וַיִּשָּׁבַ֣ע (And swore) מֹשֶׁ֗ה (Moses) בַּיּ֣וֹם (on day) הַהוּא֮ (that), לֵאמֹר֒ (saying), אִם־ (If) לֹ֗א (not) הָאָ֙רֶץ֙ (the land) אֲשֶׁ֨ר (where) דָּרְכָ֤ה (has trodden) רַגְלְךָ֙ (your foot) בָּ֔הּ (in it), לְךָ֨ (to you) תִֽהְיֶ֧ה (shall be) לְנַחֲלָ֛ה (for an inheritance), וּלְבָנֶ֖יךָ (and to your sons) עַד־ (even to) עוֹלָ֑ם (forever), כִּ֣י (because) מִלֵּ֔אתָ (you have wholly) אַחֲרֵ֖י (followed) יְהוָ֥ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהָֽי׃ (my God).

10  וְעַתָּ֗ה (And), הִנֵּה֩ (behold), הֶחֱיָ֨ה (has kept alive) יְהוָ֣ה׀ (YHWH) אוֹתִי֮ (me) כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר (as) דִּבֵּר֒ (He said) זֶה֩ (these) אַרְבָּעִ֨ים (forty) וְחָמֵ֜שׁ (and five) שָׁנָ֗ה (years), מֵ֠אָז (from when) דִּבֶּ֨ר (spoke) יְהוָ֜ה (YHWH) אֶת־ (-) הַדָּבָ֤ר (word) הַזֶּה֙ (this) אֶל־ (to) מֹשֶׁ֔ה (Moses) אֲשֶׁר־ (when) הָלַ֥ךְ (wandered) יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל (Israel) בַּמִּדְבָּ֑ר (in the wilderness); וְעַתָּה֙ (and), הִנֵּ֣ה (behold), אָנֹכִ֣י (I am) הַיּ֔וֹם (this day) בֶּן־ (a son) חָמֵ֥שׁ (of five) וּשְׁמוֹנִ֖ים (and eighty) שָׁנָֽה׃ (years). 11  עוֹדֶ֨נִּי (Yet I am) הַיּ֜וֹם (this day) חָזָ֗ק (as strong) כַּֽאֲשֶׁר֙ (as) בְּי֨וֹם (on the day) שְׁלֹ֤חַ (that sent) אוֹתִי֙ (me) מֹשֶׁ֔ה (Moses). כְּכֹ֥חִי (As my power was) אָ֖ז (then), וּכְכֹ֣חִי (so is my power) עָ֑תָּה (now), לַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה (for war), וְלָצֵ֥את (and to go out), וְלָבֽוֹא׃ (and to come in).

12  וְעַתָּ֗ה (And now) תְּנָה־ (give) לִּי֙ (to me) אֶת־ (-) הָהָ֣ר (the mountain) הַזֶּ֔ה (this), אֲשֶׁר־ (of which) דִּבֶּ֥ר (spoke) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) בַּיּ֣וֹם (in day) הַה֑וּא (that), כִּ֣י (for) אַתָּֽה־ (you) שָׁמַעְתָּ֩ (heard) בַיּ֨וֹם (in day) הַה֜וּא (that) כִּֽי־ (how) עֲנָקִ֣ים (the Anakim were) שָׁ֗ם (there), וְעָרִים֙ (and the cities were) גְּדֹל֣וֹת (great) בְּצֻר֔וֹת (and fortified). אוּלַ֨י (Perhaps) יְהוָ֤ה (YHWH) אוֹתִי֙ (will be with me), וְה֣וֹרַשְׁתִּ֔ים (and I will dispossess them), כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר (as) דִּבֶּ֥ר (has spoken) יְהוָֽה׃ (YHWH).

13  וַֽיְבָרְכֵ֖הוּ (And blessed him) יְהוֹשֻׁ֑עַ (Joshua) וַיִּתֵּ֧ן (and gave) אֶת־ (-) חֶבְר֛וֹן (Hebron) לְכָלֵ֥ב (to Caleb) בֶּן־ (son) יְפֻנֶּ֖ה (of Jephunneh) לְנַחֲלָֽה׃ (as an inheritance). 14  עַל־ (Upon) כֵּ֣ן (thus) הָיְתָֽה־ (was) חֶ֠בְרוֹן (Hebron) לְכָלֵ֨ב (to Caleb) בֶּן־ (son) יְפֻנֶּ֤ה (of Jephunneh) הַקְּנִזִּי֙ (the Kenizzite) לְֽנַחֲלָ֔ה (the inheritance) עַ֖ד (to) הַיּ֣וֹם (day) הַזֶּ֑ה (this), יַ֚עַן (because) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that) מִלֵּ֔א (he wholly) אַחֲרֵ֕י (followed) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֵ֥י (God) יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (of Israel). 15  וְשֵׁ֨ם (And the name) חֶבְר֤וֹן (of Hebron was) לְפָנִים֙ (formerly was) קִרְיַ֣ת (Kiriath-) אַרְבַּ֔ע (arba); הָאָדָ֧ם (man) הַגָּד֛וֹל (the great) בָּעֲנָקִ֖ים (among the Anakim) ה֑וּא (he was).)

וְהָאָ֥רֶץ (And the land) שָׁקְטָ֖ה (had rest) מִמִּלְחָמָֽה׃פ (from war).
