Temple Destruction and Other Signs
(Mark 13:1–8; Luke 21:5–9)

1And having gone out from the temple, Jesus was going, and His disciples came near to point out to Him the buildings of the temple.

2And answering, He said to them, “Do you⁺ not see all these things? Truly I say to you⁺, not one stone here shall be left upon a stone, which will not be thrown down.”

3And He sitting upon the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him by Himself, saying, “Tell us when these things will be. And what is the sign of Your coming and the consummation of the age?”

4And answering, Jesus said to them, “Take heed, lest anyone may lead you⁺ astray. 5For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and they will lead many astray. 6And you⁺ will begin to hear of wars and rumors of wars. Behold, do not be alarmed; for it is necessary to happen, but the end is not yet. 7For nation will rise up against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8And all these are the beginning of birth pains.

Witnessing to All Nations
(Mark 13:9–13; Luke 21:10–19)

9Then they will deliver you⁺ up to tribulation, and they will kill you⁺, and you⁺ will be hated by all the nations because of My name. 10And then many will be caused to stumble, and they will deliver up one another and will hate one another; 11and many false prophets will arise and will lead many astray.

12And because lawlessness is to be multiplied, the love of many will grow cold. 13But the one having endured to the end, he will be saved.

14And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed in the whole world for a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come.

The Abomination of Desolation
(Mark 13:14–23; Luke 21:20–24)

15Therefore, when you⁺ shall see the ‘abomination of the desolation,’ having been spoken of by the prophet Daniel, standing in the holy place (the one reading, let him understand), 16then those in Judea, let them flee to the mountains; 17the one on the housetop, let him not come down to take away the things out of his house; 18and the one in the field, let him not return back to take away his garment.

19And woe to those having in womb and to those nursing in those days! 20But pray that your⁺ flight may not be in winter, nor on a Sabbath. 21For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, nor ever shall be. 22And if those days were not shortened, not any flesh would have been saved; but because of the chosen, those days will be shortened.

23At that time if anyone should say to you⁺, ‘Behold, here is the Christ,’ or ‘Here,’ do not believe it. 24For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will give great signs and wonders so as to lead astray, if possible, even the chosen. 25Behold, I have told you⁺ beforehand.

The Return of the Son of Man
(Mark 13:24–27; Luke 21:25–28)

26Therefore if they may say to you⁺, ‘Behold, He is in the wilderness,’ do not go out; or ‘Behold, in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it. 27For just as the lightning goes out from the east and shines as far as the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. 28Wherever the carcass may be, there the vultures will be gathered.

29And immediately after the tribulation of those days:

‘The sun will be darkened,

and the moon will not give her light;

and the stars will fall from the sky,

and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.”

30And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn. And they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory. 31And He will send His angels with a great trumpet call, and they will gather together His chosen from the four winds, from the ends of the heavens to the ends of them.

The Lesson of the Fig Tree
(Mark 13:28–31; Luke 21:29–33)

32Now learn the parable from the fig tree: When its branch already shall have become tender and it may put forth leaves, you⁺ know that the summer is near. 33So also you⁺, when you⁺ see all these things, know that He is near, at the doors. 34Truly I say to you⁺ that this generation shall not have passed away until all these things shall have come to pass. 35The heaven and the earth will pass away, but My words shall never pass away.

Readiness at Any Hour
(Genesis 6:1–7; Mark 13:32–37; Luke 12:35–48)

36But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of the heavens, nor the Son, except the Father only. 37For as were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. 38For as in those days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until that day Noah entered into the ark. 39And they did not know until the flood came and took away all. So also will be the coming of the Son of Man. 40Then two will be in the field: one is taken, and one is left. 41Two women will be grinding at the mill: one is taken, and one is left.

42Therefore watch, because you⁺ do not know on what day your⁺ Lord comes. 43But know this, that if the master of the house had known in which watch the thief comes, he would have watched and would not have allowed his house to be broken into. 44Because of this also, you⁺ be ready, because in the hour that you⁺ do not think, the Son of Man comes.

45Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom the master set over his household, to give them the food in season? 46Blessed is that servant whom his master, having come, will find so doing. 47Truly I say to you⁺ that he will set him over all of his possessions.

48But if that evil servant should say in his heart, ‘My master delays,49and he should begin to beat his fellow servants, and he should eat and drink with those being drunk, 50the master of that servant will come in a day that he does not expect and in an hour that he does not know, 51and he will cut him in two and will appoint his portion with the hypocrites—there will be weeping and gnashing of the teeth.
