John 15
Literal Emphasis Translation Par ▾
1I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser (farmer, latin-agricola-farmer like agriculturalist). 2Every branch in Me not bearing fruit, He takes it away (removes); and everyone bearing fruit, He prunes (kathairei, purges, cleanses, purifies) it, so that it might bear more (more excellent, very great, greater) fruit. 3You already are clean (katharoi, pruned?, purged) through the word that I have spoken to you. 4Abide in Me and I in you. Just as the branch is not able to bear from from itself, unless it abide in the vine, so neither can you, unless you abide in Me. 5I am the vine; you are the branches. The one abiding in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit; because apart from Me, you are not able to do anything. 6If anyone does not abide in Me, he is thrown outside like as the branch, and is dried up, and they gather them together, and throw into the fire and it is burned. 7If you abide in Me and My sayings (rhemata) abide in you, you shall ask whatever (what possibly) you will (wish, want), and it will happen (be done, come into being) for you. 8In this My Father is glorified, so that you should bear much fruit and you shall be My disciples. 9Just as the Father has loved Me, I also have loved you. Abide in My love. 10If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love. 11I have spoken these things to you, so that My joy might be in you and your joy might be full.

12This is My commandment, that you love one another, just as I loved you.

13No one has greater love than this, that one should lay down his life (soul) for the sake of his friends. 14You are My friends if you do what I command you. 15I no longer call you servants, because the servant does not know what his lord is doing. However you I have called friends, because all things that I heard from My Father, I have made known to you. 16You have not chosen Me, but I chose you, and appointed you, so that you should go and you should bear fruit and your fruit should remain; so that whatever you might ask the Father in My name, He might give you. 17These things I command you, so that you love one another.

18If the world hates you, you know that it has hated Me before you. 19If you were from out of the world, the world would love (ephilei) you as its own; and because you are not from out of the world, but I chose you from out of the world, on account of this the world hates you. 20Remember the word that I said to you, A servant is not greater than his lord. If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you; if they kept My word, they will also keep yours. 21But all these things they will do unto (against) you on account of My name, because they have not known the One having sent Me. 22If I had not come and spoken to them, they would have not had sin; however now they have no excuse (pretense, latin-excusationem-excuse roots are apology/ exoneration, pre-apparent/visible/bring to light) concerning their sin. 23The one hating Me also hates My Father. 24If I had not done the works among them that no other has done, they would not have had sin; now however they have seen and have hated Me and My Father. 25But so that the word having been written in their law might be fulfilled, They hated Me without cause (to no purpose, not done under compulsion or obligation).

26When the Paraclete comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who goes out from (close beside) the Father, He will bear witness concerning Me. 27And you also bear witness, because you are with Me from the beginning.
