1Then the LORD said to Moses,1The LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
2“Command the Israelites and say to them: When you enter the land of Canaan, it will be allotted to you as an inheritance with these boundaries:2“Command the people of Israel, and say to them, When you enter the land of Canaan (this is the land that shall fall to you for an inheritance, the land of Canaan as defined by its borders),
3Your southern border will extend from the Wilderness of Zin along the border of Edom. On the east, your southern border will run from the end of the Salt Sea,3your south side shall be from the wilderness of Zin alongside Edom, and your southern border shall run from the end of the Salt Sea on the east.
4cross south of the Ascent of Akrabbim, continue to Zin, and go south of Kadesh-barnea. Then it will go on to Hazar-addar and proceed to Azmon,4And your border shall turn south of the ascent of Akrabbim, and cross to Zin, and its limit shall be south of Kadesh-barnea. Then it shall go on to Hazar-addar, and pass along to Azmon.
5where it will turn from Azmon, join the Brook of Egypt, and end at the Sea.5And the border shall turn from Azmon to the Brook of Egypt, and its limit shall be at the sea.
6Your western border will be the coastline of the Great Sea; this will be your boundary on the west.6“For the western border, you shall have the Great Sea and its coast. This shall be your western border.
7Your northern border will run from the Great Sea directly to Mount Hor,7“This shall be your northern border: from the Great Sea you shall draw a line to Mount Hor.
8and from Mount Hor to Lebo-hamath, then extend to Zedad,8From Mount Hor you shall draw a line to Lebo-hamath, and the limit of the border shall be at Zedad.
9continue to Ziphron, and end at Hazar-enan. This will be your boundary on the north.9Then the border shall extend to Ziphron, and its limit shall be at Hazar-enan. This shall be your northern border.
10And your eastern border will run straight from Hazar-enan to Shepham,10“You shall draw a line for your eastern border from Hazar-enan to Shepham.
11then go down from Shepham to Riblah on the east side of Ain and continue along the slopes east of the Sea of Chinnereth.11And the border shall go down from Shepham to Riblah on the east side of Ain. And the border shall go down and reach to the shoulder of the Sea of Chinnereth on the east.
12Then the border will go down along the Jordan and end at the Salt Sea. This will be your land, defined by its borders on all sides.”12And the border shall go down to the Jordan, and its limit shall be at the Salt Sea. This shall be your land as defined by its borders all around.”
13So Moses commanded the Israelites, “Apportion this land by lot as an inheritance. The LORD has commanded that it be given to the nine and a half tribes.13Moses commanded the people of Israel, saying, “This is the land that you shall inherit by lot, which the LORD has commanded to give to the nine tribes and to the half-tribe.
14For the tribes of the Reubenites and Gadites, along with the half-tribe of Manasseh, have already received their inheritance.14For the tribe of the people of Reuben by fathers’ houses and the tribe of the people of Gad by their fathers’ houses have received their inheritance, and also the half-tribe of Manasseh.
15These two and a half tribes have received their inheritance across the Jordan from Jericho, toward the sunrise.”15The two tribes and the half-tribe have received their inheritance beyond the Jordan east of Jericho, toward the sunrise.”
16Then the LORD said to Moses,16The LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
17“These are the names of the men who are to assign the land as an inheritance for you: Eleazar the priest and Joshua son of Nun.17“These are the names of the men who shall divide the land to you for inheritance: Eleazar the priest and Joshua the son of Nun.
18Appoint one leader from each tribe to distribute the land.18You shall take one chief from every tribe to divide the land for inheritance.
19These are their names: Caleb son of Jephunneh from the tribe of Judah;19These are the names of the men: Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh.
20Shemuel son of Ammihud from the tribe of Simeon;20Of the tribe of the people of Simeon, Shemuel the son of Ammihud.
21Elidad son of Chislon from the tribe of Benjamin;21Of the tribe of Benjamin, Elidad the son of Chislon.
22Bukki son of Jogli, a leader from the tribe of Dan;22Of the tribe of the people of Dan a chief, Bukki the son of Jogli.
23Hanniel son of Ephod, a leader from the tribe of Manasseh son of Joseph;23Of the people of Joseph: of the tribe of the people of Manasseh a chief, Hanniel the son of Ephod.
24Kemuel son of Shiphtan, a leader from the tribe of Ephraim;24And of the tribe of the people of Ephraim a chief, Kemuel the son of Shiphtan.
25Eli-zaphan son of Parnach, a leader from the tribe of Zebulun;25Of the tribe of the people of Zebulun a chief, Elizaphan the son of Parnach.
26Paltiel son of Azzan, a leader from the tribe of Issachar;26Of the tribe of the people of Issachar a chief, Paltiel the son of Azzan.
27Ahihud son of Shelomi, a leader from the tribe of Asher;27And of the tribe of the people of Asher a chief, Ahihud the son of Shelomi.
28and Pedahel son of Ammihud, a leader from the tribe of Naphtali.”28Of the tribe of the people of Naphtali a chief, Pedahel the son of Ammihud.”
29These are the ones whom the LORD commanded to apportion the inheritance to the Israelites in the land of Canaan.29These are the men whom the LORD commanded to divide the inheritance for the people of Israel in the land of Canaan.
