For the choirmaster. According to Sheminith. A Psalm of David. Help, O LORD, for the godly are no more; the faithful have vanished from among men. | 1For the choir director; upon an eight-stringed lyre. A Psalm of David. Help, LORD, for the godly man ceases to be, For the faithful disappear from among the sons of men. |
They lie to one another; they speak with flattering lips and a double heart. | 2They speak falsehood to one another; With flattering lips and with a double heart they speak. |
May the LORD cut off all flattering lips and every boastful tongue. | 3May the LORD cut off all flattering lips, The tongue that speaks great things; |
They say, “With our tongues we will prevail. We own our lips—who can be our master?” | 4Who have said, "With our tongue we will prevail; Our lips are our own; who is lord over us?" |
“For the cause of the oppressed and for the groaning of the needy, I will now arise,” says the LORD. “I will bring safety to him who yearns.” | 5"Because of the devastation of the afflicted, because of the groaning of the needy, Now I will arise," says the LORD; "I will set him in the safety for which he longs." |
The words of the LORD are flawless, like silver refined in a furnace, like gold purified sevenfold. | 6The words of the LORD are pure words; As silver tried in a furnace on the earth, refined seven times. |
You, O LORD, will keep us; You will forever guard us from this generation. | 7You, O LORD, will keep them; You will preserve him from this generation forever. |
The wicked wander freely, and vileness is exalted among men. | 8The wicked strut about on every side When vileness is exalted among the sons of men. |
