For the choirmaster. To the tune of “The Lilies of the Covenant.” A Psalm of Asaph. Hear us, O Shepherd of Israel, who leads Joseph like a flock; You who sit enthroned between the cherubim, shine forth | 1For the choir director; set to El Shoshannim; Eduth. A Psalm of Asaph. Oh, give ear, Shepherd of Israel, You who lead Joseph like a flock; You who are enthroned above the cherubim, shine forth! |
before Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasseh. Rally Your mighty power and come to save us. | 2Before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh, stir up Your power And come to save us! |
Restore us, O God, and cause Your face to shine upon us, that we may be saved. | 3O God, restore us And cause Your face to shine upon us, and we will be saved. |
O LORD God of Hosts, how long will Your anger smolder against the prayers of Your people? | 4O LORD God of hosts, How long will You be angry with the prayer of Your people? |
You fed them with the bread of tears and made them drink the full measure of their tears. | 5You have fed them with the bread of tears, And You have made them to drink tears in large measure. |
You make us contend with our neighbors; our enemies mock us. | 6You make us an object of contention to our neighbors, And our enemies laugh among themselves. |
Restore us, O God of Hosts, and cause Your face to shine upon us, that we may be saved. | 7O God of hosts, restore us And cause Your face to shine upon us, and we will be saved. |
You uprooted a vine from Egypt; You drove out the nations and transplanted it. | 8You removed a vine from Egypt; You drove out the nations and planted it. |
You cleared the ground for it, and it took root and filled the land. | 9You cleared the ground before it, And it took deep root and filled the land. |
The mountains were covered by its shade, and the mighty cedars with its branches. | 10The mountains were covered with its shadow, And the cedars of God with its boughs. |
It sent out its branches to the Sea, and its shoots toward the River. | 11It was sending out its branches to the sea And its shoots to the River. |
Why have You broken down its walls, so that all who pass by pick its fruit? | 12Why have You broken down its hedges, So that all who pass that way pick its fruit? |
The boar from the forest ravages it, and the creatures of the field feed upon it. | 13A boar from the forest eats it away And whatever moves in the field feeds on it. |
Return, O God of Hosts, we pray! Look down from heaven and see! Attend to this vine— | 14O God of hosts, turn again now, we beseech You; Look down from heaven and see, and take care of this vine, |
the root Your right hand has planted, the son You have raised up for Yourself. | 15Even the shoot which Your right hand has planted, And on the son whom You have strengthened for Yourself. |
Your vine has been cut down and burned; they perish at the rebuke of Your countenance. | 16It is burned with fire, it is cut down; They perish at the rebuke of Your countenance. |
Let Your hand be upon the man at Your right hand, on the son of man You have raised up for Yourself. | 17Let Your hand be upon the man of Your right hand, Upon the son of man whom You made strong for Yourself. |
Then we will not turn away from You; revive us, and we will call on Your name. | 18Then we shall not turn back from You; Revive us, and we will call upon Your name. |
Restore us, O LORD God of Hosts; cause Your face to shine upon us, that we may be saved. | 19O LORD God of hosts, restore us; Cause Your face to shine upon us, and we will be saved. |
