"Rejoice, childless one, who did not give birth; burst into song and shout, you who have not been in labor! For the children of the desolate one will be more than the children of the married woman," says the LORD. | 1Sing, O barren, thou that didst not bear; break forth into singing, and cry aloud, thou that didst not travail with child: for more are the children of the desolate than the children of the married wife, saith the LORD. |
"Enlarge the site of your tent, and let your tent curtains be stretched out; do not hold back; lengthen your ropes, and drive your pegs deep. | 2Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes; |
For you will spread out to the right and to the left, and your descendants will dispossess nations and inhabit the desolate cities. | 3For thou shalt break forth on the right hand and on the left; and thy seed shall inherit the Gentiles, and make the desolate cities to be inhabited. |
"Do not be afraid, for you will not be put to shame; don't be humiliated, for you will not be disgraced. For you will forget the shame of your youth, and you will no longer remember the disgrace of your widowhood. | 4Fear not; for thou shalt not be ashamed: neither be thou confounded; for thou shalt not be put to shame: for thou shalt forget the shame of thy youth, and shalt not remember the reproach of thy widowhood any more. |
Indeed, your husband is your Maker--his name is the LORD of Armies--and the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer; he is called the God of the whole earth. | 5For thy Maker is thine husband; the LORD of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called. |
For the LORD has called you, like a wife deserted and wounded in spirit, a wife of one's youth when she is rejected," says your God. | 6For the LORD hath called thee as a woman forsaken and grieved in spirit, and a wife of youth, when thou wast refused, saith thy God. |
"I deserted you for a brief moment, but I will take you back with abundant compassion. | 7For a small moment have I forsaken thee; but with great mercies will I gather thee. |
In a surge of anger I hid my face from you for a moment, but I will have compassion on you with everlasting love," says the LORD your Redeemer. | 8In a little wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment; but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith the LORD thy Redeemer. |
"For this is like the days of Noah to me: when I swore that the water of Noah would never flood the earth again, so I have sworn that I will not be angry with you or rebuke you. | 9For this is as the waters of Noah unto me: for as I have sworn that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth; so have I sworn that I would not be wroth with thee, nor rebuke thee. |
Though the mountains move and the hills shake, my love will not be removed from you and my covenant of peace will not be shaken," says your compassionate LORD. | 10For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the LORD that hath mercy on thee. |
"Poor Jerusalem, storm-tossed, and not comforted, I will set your stones in black mortar, and lay your foundations in lapis lazuli. | 11O thou afflicted, tossed with tempest, and not comforted, behold, I will lay thy stones with fair colours, and lay thy foundations with sapphires. |
I will make your fortifications out of rubies, your gates out of sparkling stones, and all your walls out of precious stones. | 12And I will make thy windows of agates, and thy gates of carbuncles, and all thy borders of pleasant stones. |
Then all your children will be taught by the LORD, their prosperity will be great, | 13And all thy children shall be taught of the LORD; and great shall be the peace of thy children. |
and you will be established on a foundation of righteousness. You will be far from oppression, you will certainly not be afraid; you will be far from terror, it will certainly not come near you. | 14In righteousness shalt thou be established: thou shalt be far from oppression; for thou shalt not fear: and from terror; for it shall not come near thee. |
If anyone attacks you, it is not from me; whoever attacks you will fall before you. | 15Behold, they shall surely gather together, but not by me: whosoever shall gather together against thee shall fall for thy sake. |
Look, I have created the craftsman who blows on the charcoal fire and produces a weapon suitable for its task; and I have created the destroyer to cause havoc. | 16Behold, I have created the smith that bloweth the coals in the fire, and that bringeth forth an instrument for his work; and I have created the waster to destroy. |
No weapon formed against you will succeed, and you will refute any accusation raised against you in court. This is the heritage of the LORD's servants, and their vindication is from me." This is the LORD's declaration. | 17No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD. |
