God, do not keep silent. Do not be deaf, God; do not be quiet. | 1A Song or Psalm of Asaph. Keep not thou silence, O God: hold not thy peace, and be not still, O God. |
See how your enemies make an uproar; those who hate you have acted arrogantly. | 2For, lo, thine enemies make a tumult: and they that hate thee have lifted up the head. |
They devise clever schemes against your people; they conspire against your treasured ones. | 3They have taken crafty counsel against thy people, and consulted against thy hidden ones. |
They say, "Come, let us wipe them out as a nation so that Israel's name will no longer be remembered." | 4They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance. |
For they have conspired with one mind; they form an alliance against you-- | 5For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee: |
the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, Moab and the Hagrites, | 6The tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, and the Hagarenes; |
Gebal, Ammon, and Amalek, Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre. | 7Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; the Philistines with the inhabitants of Tyre; |
Even Assyria has joined them; they lend support to the sons of Lot. Selah | 8Assur also is joined with them: they have holpen the children of Lot. Selah. |
Deal with them as you did with Midian, as you did with Sisera and Jabin at the Kishon River. | 9Do unto them as unto the Midianites; as to Sisera, as to Jabin, at the brook of Kison: |
They were destroyed at En-dor; they became manure for the ground. | 10Which perished at Endor: they became as dung for the earth. |
Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb, and all their tribal leaders like Zebah and Zalmunna, | 11Make their nobles like Oreb, and like Zeeb: yea, all their princes as Zebah, and as Zalmunna: |
who said, "Let us seize God's pastures for ourselves." | 12Who said, Let us take to ourselves the houses of God in possession. |
Make them like tumbleweed, my God, like straw before the wind. | 13O my God, make them like a wheel; as the stubble before the wind. |
As fire burns a forest, as a flame blazes through mountains, | 14As the fire burneth a wood, and as the flame setteth the mountains on fire; |
so pursue them with your tempest and terrify them with your storm. | 15So persecute them with thy tempest, and make them afraid with thy storm. |
Cover their faces with shame so that they will seek your name, LORD. | 16Fill their faces with shame; that they may seek thy name, O LORD. |
Let them be put to shame and terrified forever; let them perish in disgrace. | 17Let them be confounded and troubled for ever; yea, let them be put to shame, and perish: |
May they know that you alone--whose name is the LORD--are the Most High over the whole earth. | 18That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth. |
