1After this I heard something like the loud voice of a vast multitude in heaven, saying, Hallelujah! Salvation, glory, and power belong to our God, | 1After this, I heard what sounded like a vast crowd in heaven shouting, “Praise the LORD! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God. |
2because his judgments are true and righteous, because he has judged the notorious prostitute who corrupted the earth with her sexual immorality; and he has avenged the blood of his servants that was on her hands. | 2His judgments are true and just. He has punished the great prostitute who corrupted the earth with her immorality. He has avenged the murder of his servants.” |
3A second time they said, Hallelujah! Her smoke ascends forever and ever! | 3And again their voices rang out: “Praise the LORD! The smoke from that city ascends forever and ever!” |
4Then the twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped God, who is seated on the throne, saying, Amen! Hallelujah! | 4Then the twenty-four elders and the four living beings fell down and worshiped God, who was sitting on the throne. They cried out, “Amen! Praise the LORD!” |
5A voice came from the throne, saying, Praise our God, all his servants, and the ones who fear him, both small and great! | 5And from the throne came a voice that said, “Praise our God, all his servants, all who fear him, from the least to the greatest.” |
6Then I heard something like the voice of a vast multitude, like the sound of cascading waters, and like the rumbling of loud thunder, saying, Hallelujah, because our Lord God, the Almighty, reigns! | 6Then I heard again what sounded like the shout of a vast crowd or the roar of mighty ocean waves or the crash of loud thunder: “Praise the LORD! For the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns. |
7Let us be glad, rejoice, and give him glory, because the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his bride has prepared herself. | 7Let us be glad and rejoice, and let us give honor to him. For the time has come for the wedding feast of the Lamb, and his bride has prepared herself. |
8She was given fine linen to wear, bright and pure. For the fine linen represents the righteous acts of the saints. | 8She has been given the finest of pure white linen to wear.” For the fine linen represents the good deeds of God’s holy people. |
9Then he said to me, "Write: Blessed are those invited to the marriage feast of the Lamb!" He also said to me, "These words of God are true." | 9And the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding feast of the Lamb.” And he added, “These are true words that come from God.” |
10Then I fell at his feet to worship him, but he said to me, "Don't do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers and sisters who hold firmly to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God, because the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy." | 10Then I fell down at his feet to worship him, but he said, “No, don’t worship me. I am a servant of God, just like you and your brothers and sisters who testify about their faith in Jesus. Worship only God. For the essence of prophecy is to give a clear witness for Jesus. ” The Rider on the White Horse |
11Then I saw heaven opened, and there was a white horse. Its rider is called Faithful and True, and he judges and makes war with justice. | 11Then I saw heaven opened, and a white horse was standing there. Its rider was named Faithful and True, for he judges fairly and wages a righteous war. |
12His eyes were like a fiery flame, and many crowns were on his head. He had a name written that no one knows except himself. | 12His eyes were like flames of fire, and on his head were many crowns. A name was written on him that no one understood except himself. |
13He wore a robe dipped in blood, and his name is called the Word of God. | 13He wore a robe dipped in blood, and his title was the Word of God. |
14The armies that were in heaven followed him on white horses, wearing pure white linen. | 14The armies of heaven, dressed in the finest of pure white linen, followed him on white horses. |
15A sharp sword came from his mouth, so that he might strike the nations with it. He will rule them with an iron rod. He will also trample the winepress of the fierce anger of God, the Almighty. | 15From his mouth came a sharp sword to strike down the nations. He will rule them with an iron rod. He will release the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty, like juice flowing from a winepress. |
16And he has a name written on his robe and on his thigh: King of Kings and Lord of Lords. | 16On his robe at his thigh was written this title: King of all kings and Lord of all lords. |
17Then I saw an angel standing in the sun, and he called out in a loud voice, saying to all the birds flying high overhead, "Come, gather together for the great supper of God, | 17Then I saw an angel standing in the sun, shouting to the vultures flying high in the sky: “Come! Gather together for the great banquet God has prepared. |
18so that you may eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of military commanders, the flesh of the mighty, the flesh of horses and of their riders, and the flesh of everyone, both free and slave, small and great." | 18Come and eat the flesh of kings, generals, and strong warriors; of horses and their riders; and of all humanity, both free and slave, small and great.” |
19Then I saw the beast, the kings of the earth, and their armies gathered together to wage war against the rider on the horse and against his army. | 19Then I saw the beast and the kings of the world and their armies gathered together to fight against the one sitting on the horse and his army. |
20But the beast was taken prisoner, and along with it the false prophet, who had performed the signs in its presence. He deceived those who accepted the mark of the beast and those who worshiped its image with these signs. Both of them were thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with sulfur. | 20And the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who did mighty miracles on behalf of the beast—miracles that deceived all who had accepted the mark of the beast and who worshiped his statue. Both the beast and his false prophet were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur. |
21The rest were killed with the sword that came from the mouth of the rider on the horse, and all the birds ate their fill of their flesh. | 21Their entire army was killed by the sharp sword that came from the mouth of the one riding the white horse. And the vultures all gorged themselves on the dead bodies. |
