Sing aloud to God our strength; shout for joy to the God of Jacob! | 1For the choirmaster. According to Gittith. Of Asaph. Sing for joy to God our strength; make a joyful noise to the God of Jacob. |
Raise a song; sound the tambourine, the sweet lyre with the harp. | 2Lift up a song, strike the tambourine, play the sweet-sounding harp and lyre. |
Blow the trumpet at the new moon, at the full moon, on our feast day. | 3Sound the ram’s horn at the New Moon, and at the full moon on the day of our Feast. |
For it is a statute for Israel, a rule of the God of Jacob. | 4For this is a statute for Israel, an ordinance of the God of Jacob. |
He made it a decree in Joseph when he went out over the land of Egypt. I hear a language I had not known: | 5He ordained it as a testimony for Joseph when he went out over the land of Egypt, where I heard an unfamiliar language: |
“I relieved your shoulder of the burden; your hands were freed from the basket. | 6“I relieved his shoulder of the burden; his hands were freed from the basket. |
In distress you called, and I delivered you; I answered you in the secret place of thunder; I tested you at the waters of Meribah. Selah | 7You called out in distress, and I rescued you; I answered you from the cloud of thunder; I tested you at the waters of Meribah. Selah |
Hear, O my people, while I admonish you! O Israel, if you would but listen to me! | 8Hear, O My people, and I will warn you: O Israel, if only you would listen to Me! |
There shall be no strange god among you; you shall not bow down to a foreign god. | 9There must be no strange god among you, nor shall you bow to a foreign god. |
I am the LORD your God, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt. Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it. | 10I am the LORD your God, who brought you up out of Egypt. Open wide your mouth, and I will fill it. |
“But my people did not listen to my voice; Israel would not submit to me. | 11But My people would not listen to Me, and Israel would not obey Me. |
So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts, to follow their own counsels. | 12So I gave them up to their stubborn hearts to follow their own devices. |
Oh, that my people would listen to me, that Israel would walk in my ways! | 13If only My people would listen to Me, if Israel would follow My ways, |
I would soon subdue their enemies and turn my hand against their foes. | 14how soon I would subdue their enemies and turn My hand against their foes! |
Those who hate the LORD would cringe toward him, and their fate would last forever. | 15Those who hate the LORD would feign obedience, and their doom would last forever. |
But he would feed you with the finest of the wheat, and with honey from the rock I would satisfy you.” | 16But I would feed you the finest wheat; with honey from the rock I would satisfy you.” |
