O LORD, rebuke me not in your anger, nor discipline me in your wrath! | 1A Psalm of David, to bring to remembrance. O LORD, rebuke me not in thy wrath: neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure. |
For your arrows have sunk into me, and your hand has come down on me. | 2For thine arrows stick fast in me, and thy hand presseth me sore. |
There is no soundness in my flesh because of your indignation; there is no health in my bones because of my sin. | 3There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine anger; neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin. |
For my iniquities have gone over my head; like a heavy burden, they are too heavy for me. | 4For mine iniquities are gone over mine head: as an heavy burden they are too heavy for me. |
My wounds stink and fester because of my foolishness, | 5My wounds stink and are corrupt because of my foolishness. |
I am utterly bowed down and prostrate; all the day I go about mourning. | 6I am troubled; I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long. |
For my sides are filled with burning, and there is no soundness in my flesh. | 7For my loins are filled with a loathsome disease: and there is no soundness in my flesh. |
I am feeble and crushed; I groan because of the tumult of my heart. | 8I am feeble and sore broken: I have roared by reason of the disquietness of my heart. |
O Lord, all my longing is before you; my sighing is not hidden from you. | 9Lord, all my desire is before thee; and my groaning is not hid from thee. |
My heart throbs; my strength fails me, and the light of my eyes—it also has gone from me. | 10My heart panteth, my strength faileth me: as for the light of mine eyes, it also is gone from me. |
My friends and companions stand aloof from my plague, and my nearest kin stand far off. | 11My lovers and my friends stand aloof from my sore; and my kinsmen stand afar off. |
Those who seek my life lay their snares; those who seek my hurt speak of ruin and meditate treachery all day long. | 12They also that seek after my life lay snares for me: and they that seek my hurt speak mischievous things, and imagine deceits all the day long. |
But I am like a deaf man; I do not hear, like a mute man who does not open his mouth. | 13But I, as a deaf man, heard not; and I was as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth. |
I have become like a man who does not hear, and in whose mouth are no rebukes. | 14Thus I was as a man that heareth not, and in whose mouth are no reproofs. |
But for you, O LORD, do I wait; it is you, O Lord my God, who will answer. | 15For in thee, O LORD, do I hope: thou wilt hear, O Lord my God. |
For I said, “Only let them not rejoice over me, who boast against me when my foot slips!” | 16For I said, Hear me, lest otherwise they should rejoice over me: when my foot slippeth, they magnify themselves against me. |
For I am ready to fall, and my pain is ever before me. | 17For I am ready to halt, and my sorrow is continually before me. |
I confess my iniquity; I am sorry for my sin. | 18For I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin. |
But my foes are vigorous, they are mighty, and many are those who hate me wrongfully. | 19But mine enemies are lively, and they are strong: and they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied. |
Those who render me evil for good accuse me because I follow after good. | 20They also that render evil for good are mine adversaries; because I follow the thing that good is. |
Do not forsake me, O LORD! O my God, be not far from me! | 21Forsake me not, O LORD: O my God, be not far from me. |
Make haste to help me, O Lord, my salvation! | 22Make haste to help me, O Lord my salvation. |
