English Standard Version | NET Bible |
Thus says the LORD to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have grasped, to subdue nations before him and to loose the belts of kings, to open doors before him that gates may not be closed: | 1This is what the LORD says to his chosen one, to Cyrus, whose right hand I hold in order to subdue nations before him, and disarm kings, to open doors before him, so gates remain unclosed: |
“I will go before you and level the exalted places, I will break in pieces the doors of bronze and cut through the bars of iron, | 2"I will go before you and level mountains. Bronze doors I will shatter and iron bars I will hack through. |
I will give you the treasures of darkness and the hoards in secret places, that you may know that it is I, the LORD, the God of Israel, who call you by your name. | 3I will give you hidden treasures, riches stashed away in secret places, so you may recognize that I am the LORD, the one who calls you by name, the God of Israel. |
For the sake of my servant Jacob, and Israel my chosen, I call you by your name, I name you, though you do not know me. | 4For the sake of my servant Jacob, Israel, my chosen one, I call you by name and give you a title of respect, even though you do not recognize me. |
I am the LORD, and there is no other, besides me there is no God; I equip you, though you do not know me, | 5I am the LORD, I have no peer, there is no God but me. I arm you for battle, even though you do not recognize me. |
that people may know, from the rising of the sun and from the west, that there is none besides me; I am the LORD, and there is no other. | 6I do this so people will recognize from east to west that there is no God but me; I am the LORD, I have no peer. |
I form light and create darkness; I make well-being and create calamity; I am the LORD, who does all these things. | 7I am the one who forms light and creates darkness; the one who brings about peace and creates calamity. I am the LORD, who accomplishes all these things. |
“Shower, O heavens, from above, and let the clouds rain down righteousness; let the earth open, that salvation and righteousness may bear fruit; let the earth cause them both to sprout; I the LORD have created it. | 8O sky, rain down from above! Let the clouds send down showers of deliverance! Let the earth absorb it so salvation may grow, and deliverance may sprout up along with it. I, the LORD, create it. |
“Woe to him who strives with him who formed him, a pot among earthen pots! Does the clay say to him who forms it, ‘What are you making?’ or ‘Your work has no handles’? | 9One who argues with his creator is in grave danger, one who is like a mere shard among the other shards on the ground! The clay should not say to the potter, "What in the world are you doing? Your work lacks skill!" |
Woe to him who says to a father, ‘What are you begetting?’ or to a woman, ‘With what are you in labor?’” | 10Danger awaits one who says to his father, "What in the world are you fathering?" and to his mother, "What in the world are you bringing forth?" |
Thus says the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, and the one who formed him: “Ask me of things to come; will you command me concerning my children and the work of my hands? | 11This is what the LORD says, the Holy One of Israel, the one who formed him, concerning things to come: "How dare you question me about my children! How dare you tell me what to do with the work of my own hands! |
I made the earth and created man on it; it was my hands that stretched out the heavens, and I commanded all their host. | 12I made the earth, I created the people who live on it. It was me--my hands stretched out the sky, I give orders to all the heavenly lights. |
I have stirred him up in righteousness, and I will make all his ways level; he shall build my city and set my exiles free, not for price or reward,” says the LORD of hosts. | 13It is me--I stir him up and commission him; I will make all his ways level. He will rebuild my city; he will send my exiled people home, but not for a price or a bribe," says the LORD who commands armies. |
Thus says the LORD: “The wealth of Egypt and the merchandise of Cush, and the Sabeans, men of stature, shall come over to you and be yours; they shall follow you; they shall come over in chains and bow down to you. They will plead with you, saying: ‘Surely God is in you, and there is no other, no god besides him.’” | 14This is what the LORD says: "The profit of Egypt and the revenue of Ethiopia, along with the Sabeans, those tall men, will be brought to you and become yours. They will walk behind you, coming along in chains. They will bow down to you and pray to you: 'Truly God is with you; he has no peer; there is no other God!'" |
Truly, you are a God who hides himself, O God of Israel, the Savior. | 15Yes, you are a God who keeps hidden, O God of Israel, deliverer! |
All of them are put to shame and confounded; the makers of idols go in confusion together. | 16They will all be ashamed and embarrassed; those who fashion idols will all be humiliated. |
But Israel is saved by the LORD with everlasting salvation; you shall not be put to shame or confounded to all eternity. | 17Israel will be delivered once and for all by the LORD; you will never again be ashamed or humiliated. |
For thus says the LORD, who created the heavens (he is God!), who formed the earth and made it (he established it; he did not create it empty, he formed it to be inhabited!): “I am the LORD, and there is no other. | 18For this is what the LORD says, the one who created the sky--he is the true God, the one who formed the earth and made it; he established it, he did not create it without order, he formed it to be inhabited--"I am the LORD, I have no peer. |
I did not speak in secret, in a land of darkness; I did not say to the offspring of Jacob, ‘Seek me in vain.’ I the LORD speak the truth; I declare what is right. | 19I have not spoken in secret, in some hidden place. I did not tell Jacob's descendants, 'Seek me in vain!' I am the LORD, the one who speaks honestly, who makes reliable announcements. |
“Assemble yourselves and come; draw near together, you survivors of the nations! They have no knowledge who carry about their wooden idols, and keep on praying to a god that cannot save. | 20Gather together and come! Approach together, you refugees from the nations! Those who carry wooden idols know nothing, those who pray to a god that cannot deliver. |
Declare and present your case; let them take counsel together! Who told this long ago? Who declared it of old? Was it not I, the LORD? And there is no other god besides me, a righteous God and a Savior; there is none besides me. | 21Tell me! Present the evidence! Let them consult with one another! Who predicted this in the past? Who announced it beforehand? Was it not I, the LORD? I have no peer, there is no God but me, a God who vindicates and delivers; there is none but me. |
“Turn to me and be saved, all the ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other. | 22Turn to me so you can be delivered, all you who live in the earth's remote regions! For I am God, and I have no peer. |
By myself I have sworn; from my mouth has gone out in righteousness a word that shall not return: ‘To me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear allegiance.’ | 23I solemnly make this oath--what I say is true and reliable: 'Surely every knee will bow to me, every tongue will solemnly affirm; |
“Only in the LORD, it shall be said of me, are righteousness and strength; to him shall come and be ashamed all who were incensed against him. | 24they will say about me, "Yes, the LORD is a powerful deliverer."'" All who are angry at him will cower before him. |
In the LORD all the offspring of Israel shall be justified and shall glory.” | 25All the descendants of Israel will be vindicated by the LORD and will boast in him. |
