Psalm 69
ESV Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
English Standard VersionNew Living Translation
Save me, O God! For the waters have come up to my neck.1Save me, O God, for the floodwaters are up to my neck.
I sink in deep mire, where there is no foothold; I have come into deep waters, and the flood sweeps over me.2Deeper and deeper I sink into the mire; I can’t find a foothold. I am in deep water, and the floods overwhelm me.
I am weary with my crying out; my throat is parched. My eyes grow dim with waiting for my God.3I am exhausted from crying for help; my throat is parched. My eyes are swollen with weeping, waiting for my God to help me.
More in number than the hairs of my head are those who hate me without cause; mighty are those who would destroy me, those who attack me with lies. What I did not steal must I now restore?4Those who hate me without cause outnumber the hairs on my head. Many enemies try to destroy me with lies, demanding that I give back what I didn’t steal.
O God, you know my folly; the wrongs I have done are not hidden from you.5O God, you know how foolish I am; my sins cannot be hidden from you.
Let not those who hope in you be put to shame through me, O Lord GOD of hosts; let not those who seek you be brought to dishonor through me, O God of Israel.6Don’t let those who trust in you be ashamed because of me, O Sovereign LORD of Heaven’s Armies. Don’t let me cause them to be humiliated, O God of Israel.
For it is for your sake that I have borne reproach, that dishonor has covered my face.7For I endure insults for your sake; humiliation is written all over my face.
I have become a stranger to my brothers, an alien to my mother’s sons.8Even my own brothers pretend they don’t know me; they treat me like a stranger.
For zeal for your house has consumed me, and the reproaches of those who reproach you have fallen on me.9Passion for your house has consumed me, and the insults of those who insult you have fallen on me.
When I wept and humbled my soul with fasting, it became my reproach.10When I weep and fast, they scoff at me.
When I made sackcloth my clothing, I became a byword to them.11When I dress in burlap to show sorrow, they make fun of me.
I am the talk of those who sit in the gate, and the drunkards make songs about me.12I am the favorite topic of town gossip, and all the drunks sing about me.
But as for me, my prayer is to you, O LORD. At an acceptable time, O God, in the abundance of your steadfast love answer me in your saving faithfulness.13But I keep praying to you, LORD, hoping this time you will show me favor. In your unfailing love, O God, answer my prayer with your sure salvation.
Deliver me from sinking in the mire; let me be delivered from my enemies and from the deep waters.14Rescue me from the mud; don’t let me sink any deeper! Save me from those who hate me, and pull me from these deep waters.
Let not the flood sweep over me, or the deep swallow me up, or the pit close its mouth over me.15Don’t let the floods overwhelm me, or the deep waters swallow me, or the pit of death devour me.
Answer me, O LORD, for your steadfast love is good; according to your abundant mercy, turn to me.16Answer my prayers, O LORD, for your unfailing love is wonderful. Take care of me, for your mercy is so plentiful.
Hide not your face from your servant, for I am in distress; make haste to answer me.17Don’t hide from your servant; answer me quickly, for I am in deep trouble!
Draw near to my soul, redeem me; ransom me because of my enemies!18Come and redeem me; free me from my enemies.
You know my reproach, and my shame and my dishonor; my foes are all known to you.19You know of my shame, scorn, and disgrace. You see all that my enemies are doing.
Reproaches have broken my heart, so that I am in despair. I looked for pity, but there was none, and for comforters, but I found none.20Their insults have broken my heart, and I am in despair. If only one person would show some pity; if only one would turn and comfort me.
They gave me poison for food, and for my thirst they gave me sour wine to drink.21But instead, they give me poison for food; they offer me sour wine for my thirst.
Let their own table before them become a snare; and when they are at peace, let it become a trap.22Let the bountiful table set before them become a snare and their prosperity become a trap.
Let their eyes be darkened, so that they cannot see, and make their loins tremble continually.23Let their eyes go blind so they cannot see, and make their bodies shake continually.
Pour out your indignation upon them, and let your burning anger overtake them.24Pour out your fury on them; consume them with your burning anger.
May their camp be a desolation; let no one dwell in their tents.25Let their homes become desolate and their tents be deserted.
For they persecute him whom you have struck down, and they recount the pain of those you have wounded.26To the one you have punished, they add insult to injury; they add to the pain of those you have hurt.
Add to them punishment upon punishment; may they have no acquittal from you.27Pile their sins up high, and don’t let them go free.
Let them be blotted out of the book of the living; let them not be enrolled among the righteous.28Erase their names from the Book of Life; don’t let them be counted among the righteous.
But I am afflicted and in pain; let your salvation, O God, set me on high!29I am suffering and in pain. Rescue me, O God, by your saving power.
I will praise the name of God with a song; I will magnify him with thanksgiving.30Then I will praise God’s name with singing, and I will honor him with thanksgiving.
This will please the LORD more than an ox or a bull with horns and hoofs.31For this will please the LORD more than sacrificing cattle, more than presenting a bull with its horns and hooves.
When the humble see it they will be glad; you who seek God, let your hearts revive.32The humble will see their God at work and be glad. Let all who seek God’s help be encouraged.
For the LORD hears the needy and does not despise his own people who are prisoners.33For the LORD hears the cries of the needy; he does not despise his imprisoned people.
Let heaven and earth praise him, the seas and everything that moves in them.34Praise him, O heaven and earth, the seas and all that move in them.
For God will save Zion and build up the cities of Judah, and people shall dwell there and possess it;35For God will save Jerusalem and rebuild the towns of Judah. His people will live there and settle in their own land.
the offspring of his servants shall inherit it, and those who love his name shall dwell in it.36The descendants of those who obey him will inherit the land, and those who love him will live there in safety.
