Holman Christian Standard Bible | English Standard Version |
Therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, I urge you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is your spiritual worship. | 1I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. |
Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God. | 2Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. |
For by the grace given to me, I tell everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he should think. Instead, think sensibly, as God has distributed a measure of faith to each one. | 3For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. |
Now as we have many parts in one body, and all the parts do not have the same function, | 4For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, |
in the same way we who are many are one body in Christ and individually members of one another. | 5so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. |
According to the grace given to us, we have different gifts: If prophecy, use it according to the standard of one's faith; | 6Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; |
if service, in service; if teaching, in teaching; | 7if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; |
if exhorting, in exhortation; giving, with generosity; leading, with diligence; showing mercy, with cheerfulness. | 8the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness. |

Show family affection to one another with brotherly love. Outdo one another in showing honor. | 10Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. |
Do not lack diligence; be fervent in spirit; serve the Lord. | 11Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. |
Rejoice in hope; be patient in affliction; be persistent in prayer. | 12Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. |
Share with the saints in their needs; pursue hospitality. | 13Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality. |
Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. | 14Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. |
Rejoice with those who rejoice; weep with those who weep. | 15Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. |
Be in agreement with one another. Do not be proud; instead, associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own estimation. | 16Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight. |
Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Try to do what is honorable in everyone's eyes. | 17Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. |
If possible, on your part, live at peace with everyone. | 18If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. |
Friends, do not avenge yourselves; instead, leave room for His wrath. For it is written: Vengeance belongs to Me; I will repay, says the Lord. | 19Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” |
But If your enemy is hungry, feed him. If he is thirsty, give him something to drink. For in so doing you will be heaping fiery coals on his head. | 20To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” |
Do not be conquered by evil, but conquer evil with good. | 21Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. |
