| 1When one of you has a complaint against another, does he dare to take the matter before those who are unrighteous and not before the saints? | 1Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unjust, and not before the saints? |
| 2You know that the saints will rule the world, don't you? And if the world is going to be ruled by you, can't you handle insignificant cases? | 2Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters? |
| 3You know that we will rule angels, not to mention things in this life, don't you? | 3Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life? |
| 4So if you have cases dealing with this life, why do you appoint as judges people who have no standing in the church? | 4If then ye have judgments of things pertaining to this life, set them to judge who are least esteemed in the church. |
| 5I say this to make you feel ashamed. Has it come to this, that there is not one person among you who is wise enough to settle disagreements between brothers? | 5I speak to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you? no, not one that shall be able to judge between his brethren? |
| 6Instead, one brother goes to court against another brother, and before unbelieving judges, at that! | 6But brother goeth to law with brother, and that before the unbelievers. |
| 7The very fact that you have lawsuits among yourselves is already a defeat for you. Why not rather just accept the wrong? Why not rather be cheated? | 7Now therefore there is utterly a fault among you, because ye go to law one with another. Why do ye not rather take wrong? why do ye not rather suffer yourselves to be defrauded? |
| 8Instead, you yourselves practice doing wrong and cheating others, and brothers at that! | 8Nay, ye do wrong, and defraud, and that your brethren. |
| 9You know that wicked people will not inherit the kingdom of God, don't you? Stop deceiving yourselves! Sexually immoral people, idolaters, adulterers, male prostitutes, homosexuals, | 9Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, |
| 10thieves, greedy people, drunks, slanderers, and robbers will not inherit the kingdom of God. | 10Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. |
| 11That is what some of you were! But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of our Lord Jesus the Messiah and by the Spirit of our God. | 11And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. |
| 12Everything is permissible for me, but not everything is helpful. Everything is permissible for me, but I will not allow anything to control me. | 12All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any. |
| 13Food is for the stomach, and the stomach is for food, but God will make them both unnecessary. The body is not meant for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. | 13Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body. |
| 14God raised the Lord, and by his power he will also raise us. | 14And God hath both raised up the Lord, and will also raise up us by his own power. |
| 15You know that your bodies belong to the Messiah, don't you? Should I take what belongs to the Messiah and unite them with a prostitute? Certainly not! | 15Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid. |
| 16You know that the person who unites himself with a prostitute becomes one body with her, don't you? For it is said, "The two will become one flesh." | 16What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh. |
| 17But the person who unites himself with the Lord becomes one spirit with him. | 17But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit. |
| 18Keep on running away from sexual immorality. Any other sin that a person commits is outside his body, but the person who sins sexually sins against his own body. | 18Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. |
| 19You know that your body is a sanctuary of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have received from God, don't you? You do not belong to yourselves, | 19What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? |
| 20because you were bought for a price. Therefore, glorify God with your bodies. | 20For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's. |
