Exodus 20

Then God spoke all these words:1And God spake all these words, saying,
"I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. 2I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
You are to have no other gods besides me.3Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
"You are not to make for yourselves an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above, or on earth below, or in the water under the earth. 4Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
You are not to bow down to them in worship or serve them, because I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the iniquity of the parents to the third and fourth generations of those who hate me, 5Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
but showing gracious love to the thousandth generation of those who love me and keep my commandments.6And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
"You are not to misuse the name of the LORD your God, because the LORD will not leave the one who misuses his name unpunished.7Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
"Remember to keep the Sabbath day holy.8Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Yu are to labor and do all your work during six days, 9Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. You are not to do any work—neither you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your livestock, nor the alien who is within your gates— 10But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
because the LORD made the heavens and the earth and the sea, and all that is in them, in six days, then he rested on the seventh day. Therefore, the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy. 11For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
"Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land that the LORD your God is giving you.12Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
"You are not to commit murder.13Thou shalt not kill.
"You are not to commit adultery.14Thou shalt not commit adultery.
"You are not to steal.15Thou shalt not steal.
"You are not to testify falsely against your neighbor.16Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
"You are not to covet your neighbor's house. You are not to covet your neighbor's wife, his male or female servant, his ox, his donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor."17Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.
All the people experienced the thunder and lightning, the sound of the ram's horn, and the smoking mountain. And as the people experienced it, they trembled and stood at a distance. 18And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off.
They told Moses, "You speak to us and we will listen, but don't let God speak with us, or we may die.19And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die.
Moses told the people, "Don't be afraid, for God has come to test you, so that you may fear him in order that you don't sin." 20And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not.
Then the people stood at a distance, and Moses approached the thick cloud where God was.21And the people stood afar off, and Moses drew near unto the thick darkness where God was.
The LORD told Moses, "This is what you are to say to the Israelis, 'You have seen for yourselves that I spoke to you from heaven. 22And the LORD said unto Moses, Thus thou shalt say unto the children of Israel, Ye have seen that I have talked with you from heaven.
You are not to make gods of silver alongside me, nor are you to make for yourselves gods of gold. 23Ye shall not make with me gods of silver, neither shall ye make unto you gods of gold.
You are to make an altar of earth for me, and you are to sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and peace offerings, your sheep, and your cattle. Everywhere I cause my name to be remembered, I'll come to you and bless you. 24An altar of earth thou shalt make unto me, and shalt sacrifice thereon thy burnt offerings, and thy peace offerings, thy sheep, and thine oxen: in all places where I record my name I will come unto thee, and I will bless thee.
If you make an altar of stone for me, you must not build it of cut stones, because if you strike it with your chisel, you will profane it. 25And if thou wilt make me an altar of stone, thou shalt not build it of hewn stone: for if thou lift up thy tool upon it, thou hast polluted it.
You are not to ascend to my altar on steps, so that your nakedness may not be exposed on it.'"26Neither shalt thou go up by steps unto mine altar, that thy nakedness be not discovered thereon.
