Psalm 48
ISV Parallel NET [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
International Standard VersionNET Bible
Great is the LORD! For he is to be praised greatly, even in the city of our God, his holy mountain.1A song, a psalm by the Korahites. The LORD is great and certainly worthy of praise in the city of our God, his holy hill.
Beautifully situated, the joy of all the earth, Mount Zion towards the north, the city of the great King.2It is lofty and pleasing to look at, a source of joy to the whole earth. Mount Zion resembles the peaks of Zaphon; it is the city of the great king.
Within her citadels God is known as a place of refuge.3God is in its fortresses; he reveals himself as its defender.
Behold, when the kings assembled together, when they traveled together,4For look, the kings assemble; they advance together.
they looked and were awestruck; they became afraid and ran away.5As soon as they see, they are shocked; they are terrified, they quickly retreat.
Trembling seized them there, pains like those of a woman in labor,6Look at them shake uncontrollably, like a woman writhing in childbirth.
as when an east wind destroyed the ships of Tarshish.7With an east wind you shatter the large ships.
Just as we have heard, so have we seen; in the city of the LORD of the heavenly armies— even in the city of our God— God will establish her forever. Interlude8We heard about God's mighty deeds, now we have seen them, in the city of the LORD, the invincible Warrior, in the city of our God. God makes it permanently secure. (Selah)
God, we have meditated on your gracious love in the midst of your Temple.9We reflect on your loyal love, O God, within your temple.
God, according to your name, so is your praise to the ends of the earth. Your right hand is filled with righteousness.10The praise you receive as far away as the ends of the earth is worthy of your reputation, O God. You execute justice!
Mount Zion will be glad; the towns of Judah will rejoice because of your judgments.11Mount Zion rejoices; the towns of Judah are happy, because of your acts of judgment.
March around Zion; encircle her; count her towers.12Walk around Zion! Encircle it! Count its towers!
Take note of her ramparts; investigate her citadels; that you may speak about them to the next generation.13Consider its defenses! Walk through its fortresses, so you can tell the next generation about it!
For this God is our God forever and ever. He will guide us until death.14For God, our God, is our defender forever! He guides us!
