A Psalm and Song at the dedication of the house of David. I will extol thee, O LORD; for thou hast lifted me up, and hast not made my foes to rejoice over me.1I will exalt you, LORD, because you have lifted me up and have not allowed my enemies to triumph over me.
O LORD my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me.2LORD my God, I cried to you for help, and you healed me.
O LORD, thou hast brought up my soul from the grave: thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.3LORD, you brought me up from Sheol; you spared me from among those going down to the Pit.
Sing unto the LORD, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.4Sing to the LORD, you his faithful ones, and praise his holy name.
For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.5For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor, a lifetime. Weeping may stay overnight, but there is joy in the morning.
And in my prosperity I said, I shall never be moved.6When I was secure, I said, "I will never be shaken."
LORD, by thy favour thou hast made my mountain to stand strong: thou didst hide thy face, and I was troubled.7LORD, when you showed your favor, you made me stand like a strong mountain; when you hid your face, I was terrified.
I cried to thee, O LORD; and unto the LORD I made supplication.8LORD, I called to you; I sought favor from my Lord:
What profit is there in my blood, when I go down to the pit? Shall the dust praise thee? shall it declare thy truth?9"What gain is there in my death, if I go down to the Pit? Will the dust praise you? Will it proclaim your truth?
Hear, O LORD, and have mercy upon me: LORD, be thou my helper.10LORD, listen and be gracious to me; LORD, be my helper."
Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness;11You turned my lament into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness,
To the end that my glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever.12so that I can sing to you and not be silent. LORD my God, I will praise you forever.
