King James BibleNET Bible
A Psalm and Song at the dedication of the house of David. I will extol thee, O LORD; for thou hast lifted me up, and hast not made my foes to rejoice over me.1A psalm--a song used at the dedication of the temple; by David. I will praise you, O LORD, for you lifted me up, and did not allow my enemies to gloat over me.
O LORD my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me.2O LORD my God, I cried out to you and you healed me.
O LORD, thou hast brought up my soul from the grave: thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.3O LORD, you pulled me up from Sheol; you rescued me from among those descending into the grave.
Sing unto the LORD, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.4Sing to the LORD, you faithful followers of his; give thanks to his holy name.
For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.5For his anger lasts only a brief moment, and his good favor restores one's life. One may experience sorrow during the night, but joy arrives in the morning.
And in my prosperity I said, I shall never be moved.6In my self-confidence I said, "I will never be upended."
LORD, by thy favour thou hast made my mountain to stand strong: thou didst hide thy face, and I was troubled.7O LORD, in your good favor you made me secure. Then you rejected me and I was terrified.
I cried to thee, O LORD; and unto the LORD I made supplication.8To you, O LORD, I cried out; I begged the Lord for mercy:
What profit is there in my blood, when I go down to the pit? Shall the dust praise thee? shall it declare thy truth?9"What profit is there in taking my life, in my descending into the Pit? Can the dust of the grave praise you? Can it declare your loyalty?
Hear, O LORD, and have mercy upon me: LORD, be thou my helper.10Hear, O LORD, and have mercy on me! O LORD, deliver me!"
Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness;11Then you turned my lament into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and covered me with joy.
To the end that my glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever.12So now my heart will sing to you and not be silent; O LORD my God, I will always give thanks to you.
